The German Cup Final was not a big experience for Leni Larsen Kaurin. Her Turbine Potsdam lost 0-7 to the European Cup winners Duisburg.
For the last time the women's Cup Final was used as a starter for the men's Final at the Olympic Stadium. 20,000 spectators were in place to see the women, and they saw Duisburg dominate throughout.
Fatmire Bajramaj, who will play for Turbine next season, contributed to sinking her new club when she scored the first goal and assisted the second. "It was my wish to win two titles this season and I did. I am extremely happy", said the German national team player.
Kaurin was substituted in the 55th minute, straight after Duisburg had scored the 5th goal. In the second half the Olympic Stadium was hit by a storm so violent that for a while it was doubtful that the game could be finished.
"We promised a lot of goals, but I expected an even match. My young team did not manage to raise themselves after a poor start and the opponents ran rings round us", said Turbine trainer Bernd Schröder.
Inka Grings and Annemiekle Kiesel scored twice each for Duisburg. Bajramaj, Femke Maes and Alexandra Popp scored one each. "I can't find words for it. When two strong teams meet, and you win 7-0, it beats all expectations", said the Duisburg trainer Martina Voss.
Even though Duisburg won the Cup and the European Cup, there will be no triple triumph. The team is in third place in the league, behind Bayern München and todays losers, Turbine Potsdam.
