South Durham & Cestria LFC have been successful in finding an 'A' licence coach in Andy Cook. Currently an FA skills coach and working at Teesside COE, Andy spent a year working at Arsenal Ladies FC and the COE U17 team. Having recently passed his 'A' licence we feel we have the someone to really advance the players as we look to make our way as high as we can up the pyramid.

Girl's Centres of Excellence / Re: Transition to Senior Footy from CoE

Hi mate,

I have an U16 team in which 7 have made the step up to 1st team and another 5 into reserve team womens football and it does come with some major differences from what they have been used to. Although they are not COE players they have gone in at a decent level (Northern Combination) and are doing really well. We played a side with a number of COE graduates in the side and their manager stated they were finding it a bit more difficult adapting. I suppose what i'm trying to say is everyone is different and just like when they are younger they will develop and adjust at different rates. I have had my eyes opened to some attitudes by 'senior' players and i suppose when young players are used to quite disciplined enviroments it can be tough to understand all the changes, especially no roll on roll off etc. What about U18s if available in your area? Shame to just waste all those years and talent

Hi Fridgeman

I can sort of confirm what you are saying as i was approached by a players parent who was to attend her first trial at the COE i think you are talking about. She expressed interest in joining our club an hour before the trial, then rang after the 1st trial and said she had been guaranteed a place despite there being in total another 3 weeks or so remaining. No gripe from me its up to the coaches how they go about their business, just backing up what you have said.

South Durham & Cestria Ladies are looking for players for both 1st and reserve team level. 1st team currently in the Northern Womens Combination League (same level as Teesside Sport/Middlesbrough COE players' exit route) and targeting promotion into the premier league next season. Minimum of level 2 and 'B' licence coaching offered. Any players moving into the Durham/Teesside area and looking for a club are more than welcome. cestriagirls@yahoo.co.uk for any interested parties. Some great young players coming through and we aren't desperate for players but can offer a decent level for girls wanting to move up with us.

Agree with you on that one, its strange how COE players are ok to play against whoever they like in the summer and not any other time of the year, but in Micks case we are talking about a new centre and trials within last few weeks when he had entered the tournament in good faith as a grassroots club some time ago.

I think if the COE were to enter tournaments that grassroots clubs could enter too, knowing that the centres had teams in, would maybe help in giving their players something to do over the summer and also give them some 'different' competition from the 4 or 5 teams they play all season.

Hi Mick

Obviously i know you but i had similar situation before, fortunately the centre saw sense as the kid had paid money to go but they said they would of rather she didn't. Personally i think when clubs have paid to enter these events (more than likely prior to the centre even getting the licence) they should be allowed to fulfill their obligation to play in them. But as usual the centres do what they want with no thought for the clubs that feed them in the 1st place. Again just my opinion. Hope you get sorted.
