Post by: Alan on February 11, 2012, 11:56:38 AM
Are you fed up with the cold? there are plenty of places a lot worse.  Have a chat with the people in Eureka, Canada, where the temperature averages minus 40 in the winter.  Today's forecast is on: http://www.yr.no/sted/Canada/Annet/Eureka,_N._W._T_/

In Europe the coldest weather is in the east.  Check the forecast: http://www.yr.no/sted/%C3%98st-Europa/

The coldest town in the northern hemisphere is Oymyakon in Yakutia, where in 1926 the temperature was a fraction colder than minus 71 degrees.  The forecast for today is here: http://www.yr.no/sted/Russland/Sakha/Oymyakon/

The weather observers at the world's coldest place, Vostok Weather station in Antarctica, have a summer weekend to look forward to, with temperatures soaring into the minus 40s:  http://www.yr.no/sted/Antarktika/Annet/Vostok/

The world's coldest capital is Ulan Baator.  4300ft above sea-level, Mongolia's capital city enjoys January temperatures that rarely exceed minus 16 degrees.  This weekend the forecast is not much different: http://www.yr.no/sted/Mongolia/Ulaanbaatar/Ulaanbaatar/

In Central Canada where over half the population live it has been a freakishly warm winter.  There is very little snow and the number of days around 0C or higher has been more than any year in recent memory.  People were jogging in Toronto a week ago and 80% of the country is predicted for higher than normal temperatures this month.

According to continent's most acclaimed and revered meteorological experts (http://goo.gl/sXFGc (http://goo.gl/sXFGc)) it will continue and be an early spring this year.

Yeah the Central Canada phenomenon is repeated at Svalbard. December was 8 degrees milder than normal, January 12 degrees milder.
