April '08 slated for women's pro soccer relaunch
« on: April 17, 2007, 11:26:08 PM »
Ownership groups representing the New York/New Jersey and Boston markets have joined six others in committing to a planned relaunch of women's professional soccer in April 2008, said Tonya Antonucci, CEO of the Women's Soccer Initiative, Inc.
"We initially set the bar at eight teams to relaunch the league, and I'm thrilled to say we made it," Antonucci said Tuesday.

Cities already confirmed for the new league include Los Angeles, Washington, St. Louis, Dallas, Chicago and a market to be named later.

The WUSA, which was born out of the success of the 1999 Women's World Cup, suspended play in 2003.
