INTERNATIONAL football will be coming to Southend United next month.

The Football Association (FA) has announced that the England Women's National football team will play an international friendly at Roots Hall on Thursday, May 17 against Iceland.

It is part of England's preparations for their second appearance at the Women's World Cup to be held in China in September.

England - managed by Hope Powell MBE -last hosted Iceland in March 2006 when a record crowd of 9,616 for an international friendly saw England win 1-0 at Norwich City's Carrow Road ground.

"Hopefully we will have a big crowd here for the game as fans come from across the county, and the women's team can win the game as they continue their preparation for the World Cup.

Tickets for the game (kick-off 7.45pm) are on sale now priced at £5 for adults and £2.50 for concessions.

They can also be purchased from the Shrimpers' ticket office pr by calling the ticket hotline on 08444 770077.
