CSUB roundup: Women's soccer team unveils recruiting class

Heading into its first full season of Division I play, Nicole Van Dyke wanted her first recruiting class to bring in a full complement of impact players.

CSUB's coach announced her 13-player recruting class Tuesday.

"In our first year playing a full NCAA Division I schedule, Roadrunners soccer fans should see a huge increase in the level of talent on the field," Van Dyke said. "I am excited about the impact of this incoming class of 2007 as we were fortunate enough to bring in some very experienced and talented student-athletes."

The class includes three transfers, eight freshmen and two international players.

Alexa Vickroy: Transfered from Cal State Fullerton after redshirting 2006. Played for the CIF North Coast Section Champion Monte Vista High team that was ranked No. 2 in the nation.

Elizabeth Cotroneo: Was an all-city first team selection all four years and her team's MVP as a senior at Skyline High in Oakland.

Alexa Ngo: A transfer from Sacramento State.

Casey Clark: A transfer from Cal State San Bernardino, where she started every game for the Coyotes the past two years.

Nicole Padilla: A freshman goalkeeper Nicole Padilla from Royal High School in Simi Valley.

Faith Perry: A two-time team MVP as a central midfielder at Glendora High.

Steph Teunissen: a freshman from Sierra High in Manteca.

Raeanne Quaresma: Teamed with Teunissen at Sierra High.

Sarah Gaskins: Was team MVP at Valhalla High in El Cajon.

Ellen Chunn: Will also join Bakersfield out of Valhalla High and helped lead the team to four CIF Southern Section playoff appearances.

Kelly Mitterholzer: A standout defensive player from Chino High.

Leanne Tucker: Comes to Bakersfield from England where she was a defensive standout for Cambridge City.

Natalie Haigh: The most experienced member of the is a 5-foot-10 central defender who comes to Bakersfield after playing for Leeds United Ladies FC. She was a defensive starter for Leeds with numerous Premier League appearances and was a starter in the 2005-06 FA Cup against Arsenal that was played in front of 15,000 people and was televised nationally in England.
