2020 Olympics: FA seeks GB women's team
« on: August 12, 2017, 04:34:43 AM »

The English FA wants to field a Great Britain women's football team at the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020.

Let teeth-gnashing commence! FA chief exec Martin Glenn has a prediction about this forum's reaction ;D

Quote
"They're not going to actively support us, but they're not going to stand in the way," he told BBC Sport.

...in fact he meant the Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish FAs. Those associations did "stand in the way" (figuratively) to block GB teams for the 2016 Olympics.

On a practical level, the team would presumably qualify based on England's performance at the 2019 World Cup, due to the English FA's ties with the British Olympic Association.

Team GB could also qualify via Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland should any of these country qualify for the World Cup.
