« on: January 11, 2017, 06:23:28 AM »
Fixtures released – the WSL 2 season starts in February (finishing in May), while WSL 1 won't start until April (fitting 9 games into 6 weeks).

The opening weekend:

Saturday, 11 February, 14:00 GMT: London Bees v Brighton & Hove Albion

Sunday, 12 February, 12:00 GMT: Durham v Millwall Lionesses

Sunday, 12 February, 14:00 GMT: Aston Villa v Watford, Oxford United v Everton, Sheffield FC v Doncaster Rovers Belles

Full list is on
http://www.thefa.com/news/2017/jan/10/fa-wsl-spring-series-fixtures

No nasty surprises for any of the promoted teams – Brighton have come up to WSL 2, Yeovil and Bristol City to WSL 1, with the relegated Belles re-starting life in WSL 2.

Millwall Lionesses have a new home ground - the St Paul's community sports facility.

http://millwall.fawsl.com/news/new_home_st_pauls_sports_ground.html#gqSEfIgHFHPFS2V0.97

It's been developed at a cost of £1m,  and is more of an ideal size than the Den. But it really looks very small in photos.

It does look tiny but what is their average gate ?   I guess the ideal would be to have the option of using The Den if they get a big game where they might sell a couple of thousand tickets because I can't see that ground holding anything like - looks like the only stand is in that picture ?

Fisher's ground was more than adequate when Millwall were in FAWPL

Only a couple of days until kickoff. League strugglers Watford will have Keith Boanas as manager, as he returns to the UK from Estonia. But they'll have their work cut out for them:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/38897617

Quote
Watford, who were unable to fulfil last weekend's Women's FA Cup third-round tie at Doncaster, now say their future is secure after meetings on Monday. ...

A club statement added that Watford conceded their cup tie against the Belles "in order to ensure necessary preparations were fully in place ahead of the start of the league fixture programme". ... Watford's former head coach Katie Rowson resigned in August and, prior to Boanas' appointment, no formal replacement had been announced for a first-team boss.

The Spring Series kicks off today at The Hive, 2pm kickoff for London Bees v Brighton & Hove Albion.

Today is Brighton's first match as a WSL club, but they're doing it without a permanent boss for the next 6 months. An in-depth report on their preparations here:

https://sentherforward.wordpress.com/2017/02/05/no-manager-but-brighton-look-to-make-their-mark-on-the-super-league/

And what on earth is going on at Watford?

https://mywomensfootball.wordpress.com/2017/02/05/doomsday-for-some-fa-wsl-franchises-sooner-or-later/

The plot thickens, apparently yesterday Watford had several signings and resignings-- Oh sorry, re-signings.

Postponed matched requiring new dates - because these games will remain OFF the FAWSL fixture list until re-scheduled (i.e. no readily available list of postponed matches to refer to) and with the Spring Series being play each of the other teams just the once, there is no obvious way of deducing home team/away team for those games for which there is no score or still showing as to be played

Sheffield FC Ladies v Doncaster Rovers Belles

Doncaster Rovers Belles v Aston Villa Ladies FC

Everton Ladies FC v Durham Women FC

Not bad 3 games off out of 7 , 42% so far.
You can bet they will be played mid-week as there are not many dates available actually.

Ah, they've postponed two because of the Women's FA Cup. I see. (Didn't realize Round 4 was so soon.)

https://mywomensfootball.wordpress.com/2017/02/13/fa-w2-spring-series-matchday-1/  Thx Sylvain!

Video of the Durham-Millwall match, which is also covered by Connor's blog:

HIGHLIGHTS: Durham Women 1-0 Millwall Lionesses
- www.youtube.com/watch?v=zL8SkUlWjhc

So, the enforced changes to the original fixture list:

Round 2
Saturday 18 February
Doncaster Rovers Belles v Aston Villa (6.30pm) P-P
Sunday 19 February
Everton v Durham (2pm) P-P

...Instead, it's Durham v Everton in the FA Cup. Same day, same time  ;D  No WSL football, due to a 'shocking' lack of giantkillings in the last round...

Quote
So Doncaster Belles are already unlucky with the fixtures list. First game in the cup H-W, second game yesterday P-P and third game also P-P due to the FA CUp Round 4. It looks like we will end up with the same mess as last season for the poor Belles.

And for a laugh, the Brighton v Belles game on the 5th of Match is under threat as well as Brighton have three players on international duty on the day and will probably end up with five.
But the FA regulations say WSL team can request postponements and it's up to the management commitee to accept it or not.
Now if a third Belles game gets postponed, they will run out of dates to play games the way things are going.
Who wants to bet the FA will reject the postponement request  ?

Belles likely to have players away on international duty as well. If postponement request is denied, is there a case for discrimination between men's and women's game? Would need to examine all rules for relevant competitions, but it does seem like a situation which could and should have been avoided.

Strictly speaking not WSL, but will involve two WSL clubs. SSE Women's FA Cup final - still no confirmation of kick off time, yet group bookings are being encouraged. Surely a lot of people need to know kick off time to make travel arrangements if they are attending.

Highlights from last week:

Brighton v Oxford
- www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZGhFpobu2I

and reports from
Millwall v Sheffield FC - http://millwall.fawsl.com/matchesReport/millwall_lionesses_v_sheffield_fc_ladies_26_february_2017_report.html
Watford v London Bees - http://www.fawsl.com/matchesReport/watford_ladies_fc_v_london_bees_26_february_2017_report.html

Three games are going ahead this weekend, but as predicted Brighton-Doncaster is off, as well as Everton-Watford.

Saturday 4 March
• London Bees v Oxford United (2pm)
Sunday 5 March
• Durham v Sheffield FC (12pm)
• Aston Villa v Millwall Lionesses (2pm)

Postponed: Brighton v Doncaster Rovers Belles due to Brighton international call-ups (6), and Everton v Watford due to Everton call-ups

The fixtures are going to pile up so much, you'd think it was the Spring-to-Early-Autumn Series.
