Club Statement - A Change in Structure

Report by Charlton Athletic WFC
Page last updated at 1:22PM UTC, Wednesday, 07 December 2016

The Charlton women’s team can confirm it will merge its reserve and development teams and no longer field a squad to compete in the South East Counties Division 1 East with immediate effect.

The newly combined squad will be managed by current development team coach Luke Brown, who will replace Krasimir Korsachki, and will continue to compete in the FA Women’s Premier League South Reserve Division. Luke has been at the club for more than three seasons and will also continue in his role supporting the RTC players as sports scientist.

Our reserve team squad will serve as a platform for our bright young talent to gain experience at a standard that will really test them, and give them the competitive learning opportunities they need to develop as players.

Other changes on the coaching and support staff side include the appointments of Sam Tomkins as head of strength and conditioning, replacing Padraig Horgan, and Ruth Tongue, who will be supporting all players as a nutritionist.

We would like to wish both Krasimir and Padraig all the best for their future endeavours within the game, and we thank them for the support they have given our players and the club.

It is a decision we have not made lightly, but one we feel is best for the players and the club in the long term.

The Development side finished 2nd in last season's (2015/16) South East Counties Division One East.

The Charlton reserves are currently 2nd in the 2016/17 WPL Reserve Southern Division.
