Emma Salomonsson has signed for Norwegian club Amazon Grimstad.  Salomonsson was born and brought up in Sweden but has Irish roots and has played friendlies for Republic of Ireland.

She has transferred from the Damallsvenskan club Jitex BK and in 2013 she was with Eskilstuna when they won promotion.

The Basque Country has a team? Well, that's no surprise, given their national pride. But Ireland played a friendly against them without getting any angry letters from FIFA or UEFA.*

The news this week is that Noelle Murray, ten years after starting her international career, has won player of the year:

Quote
Murray enjoyed a fantastic season in the Women’s National League, helping Shelbourne claim their first League and Cup double. Team-mate Leanne Kiernan claimed Young Player of the Year after a starring season which included a hat-trick in the Women’s Senior Cup final where Shels claimed a 5-0 victory over Wexford Youths.

The team of the year is:

Amanda McQuillan (Shelbourne Ladies), Jetta Berrill (UCD Waves), Pearl Slattery (Shelbourne Ladies), Chloe Moloney (Galway WFC), Niamh Prior (UCD Waves), Karen Duggan (UCD Waves), Roma McLaughlin (Peamount United), Noelle Murray (Shelbourne Ladies), Leanne Kiernan (Shelbourne Ladies), Amber Barrett (Peamount United), Siobhan Killeen (Shelbourne Ladies).

* (I know there's no grounds for an angry letter, but it seems like the kind of stupid thing
they'd crack down on - unofficial matches against bad non-UEFA teams, oh heavens.)

“All the years I've played WNL have been great from my days with Shamrock Rovers to Raheny United to Shels. The League is improving and improving and the talent is getting better and better. I can see it improving every year. The clubs’ talent and facilities are brilliant and the effort everyone puts in is unbelievable.” ...

And who should we keep an eye out for in 2017?

“I'll keep it with Shels and say keep an eye on Leanne Kiernan, Alex Kavanagh and Heather Payne from Peamount United.”
