Røa 2015
« on: December 17, 2014, 07:15:27 PM »
Røa signs Iversen:  Marita Holmen Iversen has signed for Røa in Oslo from the North Norwegian club Medkila.  Iversen is an experienced Toppserien player with 98 matches and 12 goals.  In 2014 she played five Under-23 matches for Norway.  Marita was born in 1991 and can play various roles in the midfield or the forward line.

Geir Nordby expressed his happiness at signing her.  "We have seen Marita in action several times for Medkila and are pleased to have her as part of our team", he said.  She will join Røa in January.

New pitch for Røa
« Reply #1 on: December 17, 2014, 07:16:29 PM »
Last week Oslo commune agreed the 2015 budget and it includes a new surface for the artificial pitch at the Røabanen.  At the end of the 2014 season the NFF told the club that the pitch was not fit for play any more, and now that will be put right.

The club is now working to provide extra funding to allow under-pitch heating to be installed.

This is fantastic news!  Three cheers to everyone who worked on this and especially the commune, their timing couldn't be better.

Røa signs Lyn forward
« Reply #3 on: December 19, 2014, 04:20:05 PM »
One of Lyn's successful Under-16 team has signed for Røa.  Tiril Haga is Røa's second signing this week and she can play as a striker or a winger.  She was part of the team that won both the Dana Cup and the Norway Cup in the J16 class last summer.

Thanks Alan.  She played at the end of the year for their Div1's and looks like a great signing.

When I watched Lyn play in the summer, this was the player I was surprised no one picked up:

http://goo.gl/8LXmZZ

She was a mobile battler.  You can see Haga in the background in the latter as well.

Yes, I don't know who she is but Lyn is full of talent and I bet that many clubs are watching the skipper Andrea Willmann as well.  But one or two players have gone the opposite way, Hanna Maanum for example has just joined Lyn from Stabæk.

See http://www.dittoslo.no/nordre-aker/nyheter-nordre-aker/lynnedslag-i-danmark-1.8521901 for a Lyn-J16 team photo with names at the Dana Cup this summer.

Røa 5 Urædd 1
« Reply #6 on: January 11, 2015, 08:49:14 AM »
Røa played their first training match of the year on Saturday, against Urædd, and had a 5-1 win despite having players missing  Hedda Strand Gardsjord is at La Manga with the national team, while Line Holter and Kirvil Schau Odden are out injured.  Nathalie Utvik and Marita Iversen went off wit injuries early in the match.

Vilde Hasund scored to give Røa a 1-0 lead at half time.  In the second half there were more goals from Tiril Haga and Trine Skjelstad Jensen, before Jenny Mathisen scored a reduced for Urædd.  But there were more goals for Røa, from Hasund and Jensen.

https://www.facebook.com/kvinnefotballmagasinet

Haga scores on debut

16-year-old Tiril Haga signed for Røa last month.  On Saturday she scored only a short time after running on as a second-half substitute.

"Yes, it was tremendous to play.  I'm very pleased", she told Fotballmagasinet after Røa's 5-1 win over Urædd in Saturday's training match.  She was sent on at half time and scored the 2-0 goal after a few minutes.  "I took the ball on the right hand side and shot with my first touch, into the corner of the net", she said.

Haga had a good season at Lyn last year, with six matches for the A-team in division-1.  She was with the club's U16s to win both the Dana Cup and the Norway Cup, as well as reaching the U16 Cup Final late in the season when Lyn lost to Stabæk.  "We had a great season in the U16s, but it wasn't our day in the Cup Final", she said.  That match in November was her last for Lyn because in December she went for a trial at Røa and was offered a contract.  "I was keen to try something new, a new club that is a little higher up, that will give a new challenge", she explained.

She has enjoyed every training session.  "I look forward very much to training and think it's huge fun.  The girls are very social", she said.  "It's great to get to work again and we are training hard to be better than last year, with a lot of physical training just now", said Tiril Haga.

New job for Eline Johansen
« Reply #7 on: February 03, 2015, 09:35:50 AM »
Røa has a new assistant trainer to work alongside Geir Nordby, and it is Eline Johansen.

Johansen is known as the goal-hungry striker who nearly got us to the Cup Final in 2014.  With her two quick goals in the second half of the semifinal, after coming on as a substitute, she turned the match round almost alone.  Unfortunately Eline had a serious knee injury minutes later, and it's unlikely that she will be able to play this year.

Those that followed the NRK series Fotball Professional might have seen that Tromsø's U16 boys' team had a woman trainer - Johansen.  At the same time she worked as a trainer at NTG in Tromsø.  Today she is working alongside our trainer Geir Nordby at the academy at Haslum.

Eline Johansen has a good knowledge and understanding of football.  That, with her teaching skills, leads us to believe that our trainer duo will complement each other well.

Guro Knutsen Mienna's comeback
« Reply #8 on: February 06, 2015, 05:34:35 PM »
Guro Knutsen Mienna took home four League and four Cup winners' medals in her time as a Røa player.  It's fantastic news that she is rejoining the club.

We know Guro might have thoughts of playing again in the Toppserien, which might be a bit difficult to arrange.  But now that Mette Andersen has retired it's good to have Guro back at her old club - as the new team doctor.

We look forward to being able to use Guro's other range of skills at Røa.

Røa 2 Kolbotn 1
« Reply #9 on: March 08, 2015, 10:51:44 PM »
On a windy Saturday the training match ended in a 2-1 win to Røa.

For us it's good to test our skills against Kolbotn who finished in fourth place in the Toppserien last season and have strengthened their squad with some good players.  But it's difficult to know how the teams stand a few weeks before the start of the season especially whan both teams had several players away with national teams.  But we might have expected olbotn to steer the play.

So it was good to see Røa steering most of the play in the first half.  We had a great start already after ten minutes when Trine Skjelstad Jensen found twin sister Sofie Skjelstad Jensen with a nice long pass in the back room.  Alone with the keeper she placed it into goal.  After that Røa rolled up the pitch with a good attack but the cross was a bit inaccurate and the chance went.

Kolbotn came into the match more after that but created nothing dangerous and in the last ten minutes of the half Røa took over again and had a couple of good chances.  Unfortunately Kine Kvalsvik could not sink either chance and the teams went in at half time with Røa in the lead 1-0.

When the second half started Kolbotn achieved in the first minute what they had failed to do in 45 minutes, namely to score a goal.  They combined well on their right and sent in a cross which did not look dangerous, but Trine Skjelstad Jensen let a Kolbotn player have the ball at point-blank range after a failed clearance.  But it did not take Røa long to come back after that cold sponge and press high.  Gunhild Herregården had a 22-yard free kick but the keeper saved it.

In the middle of the second half the match went into a phase of a lot of midfield duelling.  Both side showed they wanted a win.  Marita Holmen Iversen showed great fight by winning three quick duels, and it was extra good that Marita won a duel more than 40 yards out and then advanced only a few yards before launching the ball into goal via the crossbar: a heroic way to score her first goal for Røa.

Røa played less well in the second half than in the first, but the girls deserve credit for the way they played and they looked like a good football team.  Our U19 players in La Manga were so pleased with the win that they made a comeback against Denmark after being a goal down.

Røa - Kolbotn 2-1, training match, KFUM, 06-03-2015
Cards: none
Goals: 1-0 Sofie Skjelstad Jensen 10, 1-1 Kolbotn 46, 2-1 Marita Holmen Iversen 70.

Røa - Amazon today
« Reply #10 on: March 28, 2015, 08:45:53 AM »
On Saturday Røa are first out of the blocks with a home match against Amazon Grimstad.  On Friday the club called for volunteers to help clear the pitch after a heavy snowfall in the week.

For the last two seasons Amazon have survived by beating Sarpsborg-08 in the playoff at the end of the season.  A lot has happened at Amazon since last year, with 12 players leaving.  Just now the new assistant trainer, Oliver Harder, is acting as the chief trainer.  Amazon has recruited five players, of whom four are from overseas plus Heidi Eikeland from Long Island University in the US but before that from Urædd in Porsgrunn.

With many training matches against good opponents Røa are secure about how things stand, and continuity should bring us closer to the top this year.  Our big squad is a good foundation for the future.  A win, a draw and a loss in the last three training matches, all against teams above us in the table, are good grounds for optimism.

Caroline Hovland and Eline Johansen are still recovering from knee injuries last year and Line Hem will probably be out for the whole of the spring season.  Trine Skjelstad Jensen suffered a knee injury at La Manga and is unavailable for Saturday's match, while Nathalie Utvik is having ankle surgery and will miss the match.  On the other side, Line Holter and Ada Finskud trained with the team at La Manga and had some minutes on the pitch, while Eline debuted as assistant trainer at La Manga.

Amazon played a 1-1 draw with Stabæk at La Manga, which shows they have potential, and it will be important for us to be operating right from the first whistle in the season's first Toppserien match this afternoon.  We expect the players to leave any nerves behind in the locker room and show their best, as we did last year with 3-3 against LSK Kvinner.

Røa turnround
« Reply #12 on: March 28, 2015, 10:16:40 PM »
Røa went behind twice in today's match at home to Amazon Grimstad but came back and won the match 3-2.

It was the season's first Toppserien match, an exciting start on the Røabanen, where the visitors took an early lead and were 2-1 up at half time.  But Røa turned the match round in the last 15 minutes and took the points.  "The match went as expected and we managed to keep cool and not get too stressed.  We continued to play when we went behind, and deserved the win in the end.  It's really great to have three points from the first match", said trainer Geir Nordby.

Amazin trainer Oliver Harden thought his team got what they deserved when the late goal went in for Røa.  "To lose after being ahead twice is disappointing, but I'm not.  I thought Røa deserved the points today.  To be honest I didn't think we played very well.  We had some good performances and scored two goals, but the quality was not there today.  We made too many errors", said the trainer.

The visitors had a dream start to the match when Elin Gladheim found the way to the net after 12 minutes.  Six minutes later Røa's newcomer, Jodi Ann Robinson, was alone with the keeper and placed the ball into goal.  Røa pressed up to take the lead but Silje Blakstad put Amazon ahead again, against the run of play, and Amazon were 2-1 up at half time.

In the second half Røa continued to steer the play and Synne Skinnes Hansen snapped the ball up from the Amazon defence and followed up with a faultless finish for the 2-2 equaliser.  The hunt for a winner continued, and three minutes from the end the turnround was complete when captain Gunhild Herregården succeeded with a free kick.  So Røa took three points.

Canadian Jodi Ann Robinson played her first league match for Røa and was naturally pleased with a goal and a win.  "I'm a striker and my job is scoring goals.  The important thing is a good team performance and that we won the match", Robinson told fotball.no.  "It feels good.  We went behind today and wanted to come back, and we made it.  I'm proud of a team that fights hard and comes back.  Now we must continue.  We must work hard for the next match".

Geir Nordby thinks the team looks promising.  "We have not had such a good team for maybe four years.  We have grown up since last year and the year before, and the potential in the team is higher than it has been before", he said.

Espen Haugen http://www.fotball.no/Landslag_og_toppfotball/Toppfotball/Toppserien/2015/Roa-snudde-til-seier-i-serieapningen/

Sun shines on Dynamite Girls: When Jodi Ann Robinson equalised with the 1-1 goal she continued her tradition of a goal on her debut, as she also achieved for New York Flash and for Kvarnsvednes IK in Sweden.

In the second half Elen Botten was brought down and was taken off the field on a stretcher.  All substitutions had already been made and Røa had to play the last few minutes with ten players.  As Botten left, Silje Vesterbekkmo told her they would win the match for her, and Gunhild Herregården placed the ensuing free kick straight into goal, to big celebrations.

The end was nerve-racking especially with three added minutes, as Røa held out for a 3-2 win.  The match was the first one in which twins Alma and Elen Botten had started together, Alma as right-back and Elen in central midifield.

Trine Skjelstad Jensen injury
« Reply #13 on: April 09, 2015, 09:02:47 AM »
On Wednesday Røa's defender Trine Skjelstad Jensen had the bad news that she has a serious knee injury.

20-year-old Jensen twisted a knee while playing at La Manga as a substitute in the match against Vålerenga.  After coming home she had an MR examination, and the result showed that she needs surgery on the anterior cruciate ligament.

According to Røa Jensen will have an operation at the end of May.  She joined Røa at the end of 2013 from Grand Bodø after captaining the club's U19 team that won the Junior Cup Final, and scoring the winning goal.

Vålerenga v Røa on Tuesday
« Reply #15 on: April 13, 2015, 09:53:35 PM »
On Tuesday Vålerenga will be at home to Røa in the second-round Toppserien match, kicking off at 19.00.

Kirvil Schau Odden (22) and Daniela Schwarz (29) are both Toppserien players and are good friends ever since they were Kolbotn players.  On Tuesday Schwartz will do everything to score for Vålerenga in the local derby when East meets West in the city of Oslo.  Odden is one of Røa's goalkeepers.

Last time the teams met was in a training match in Vallhall in the winter.  Røa were a little better and won the match, which VIF's supporters have not forgotten.  The two friends will for a time be on opposite sides.  "Some teams are extra fun to beat", they agreed, sitting on the sofa in the apartment they share in Carl Berner.

"Røa is definitely a team we can and must beat", emphasized Daniela.

"But we're going to win!", said Kirvil.

Good friends, except tomorrow on the pitch.  "On Tuesday it's guaranteed to be a war.  No-one worries about duelling with anyone on the pitch, friends or not.  You don't always see who you are battling with", said Danielle.

Toppserien players have a special life.  Kirvil and Danielle both study and work, but other than that it's football 24/7.  Training every day, sometimes twice a day, and matches.  If there's a good match on TV the girls do not spend time watching either.  "Football drives my life and other things are on the sidelines.  That is the way I want it.  My aim is to be Norway's best keeper", said Kirvil, who shares goalkeeping duties at Røa with Silje Vesterbekkmo.  "If I had a call from the national team, it would be a 'yes!'".

Daniela is a little older and already in her foreign adventure, and her thoughts are more towards the idea that there aren't that many more years of football.  "I will be 30 soon, so in a year's time I will be going back to Switzerland and then we'll see what happens.  It's time to start thinking about what else to do", she said.  She is also part of the Swiss national team and has won the Cup twice in Sitzerland.

"But it has been a very fine adventure so far.  To be able to play so much football and live by and with football, is so rewarding.  You get to see and experience so very much", said Daniela, who in addition has learnt to speak very good Norwegian.

The two friend are thriving in the apartment.  There is a lot of football but also a lot of laughter and fun.  Mostly it's serious.  "We hope that as many people as possible will come to watch us.  It will be a good match and very cool.  There is a lot of prestige in theses events and we know that both teams will be here to give everything to win the match", said the girls.

"And you will see that we are both looking forward to Tuesday.  No worries here!".

"What will the result be?" - "2-0 to Vålerenga!", said Daniela.

"2-0 to Røa!", said Kirvil.

There's no end to the great stories from such a small country.  I said a while back the next piece to propel the country forward was the media and it's great to see so many people and from so many places getting on board.

Vålerenga - Røa 0-1
« Reply #17 on: April 15, 2015, 09:11:04 AM »
294 spectators watched a match in which each team had periods of total dominance last night in Vallhall.

After an even start to the match Røa took over and steered the play.  Six minutes into the match Marita Iversen almost sent Vilde Hasud through alone with the keeper, but a long toe from defender Daniela Schwartz intercepted the ball.  A few minutes later Synne Hansen was forward and rolled the ball through to Marita Iversen.  Alone with the keeper Marita placed the ball into the far corner and we took the lead.  It was her first Toppserien goal for Røa.

Just before half time Line Holter had to go off and there were some changes.  For the second half Vålerenga substituted two players, and they came out determined to press.  Our passing quality worsened and Vålerenga were able to control the play.  They did not create any big chances but there was a goal hanging in the air and it could have gone either way.  Despite Vålerenga's dominance Røa had a few scoring possibilities.  Nora Byom-Nilssen had a good free kick after 20 minutes which Guro Pettersen turned out for a corner.  Nora could have scored after the corner but her shot from 15 yards was blocked.

While the visiting supporters chewed their nails the girls battled like lions.  Vålerenga often came round on the wing but Røa stood up to the duels and kept the ball away from keeper Silje Vesterbekkmo.  But Silje was forced to go to full stretch after a header crossed on its way in at the far post - a good save.  Silje and Røa had the margins with them when a shot from Johanne Fridlund hit the crossbar straight after that.

In the 85th minute Tiril Haga replaced Jodi Ann Robinson and made her debut in the Toppserien.  The match opened out as Vålerenga looked for a goal, creating chances for us to counterattack.  One of them ended in an indirect free kick nine yards from goal after the keeper picked up a back-pass, but Elen Botten placed her kick just wide.

Marita Iversen could have scored another goal in stoppage time after Guro Pettersen had gone up for a Vålerenga corner.  The ball was cleared to Iversen and she tried to run up and score but with tired legs she rolled the ball just out, to the relief of the desperately sprinting goalkeeper.

Tiril Haga came as close as she could to a dream debut when she was played through alone with Pettersen, but by a freak her shot bounced off Pettersen's heel five minutes into stoppage time.

Røa take a point against Arna Bjørnar
« Reply #18 on: April 21, 2015, 12:43:56 PM »
It was a warm day at the Røabanen and with a good crowd the stage was set for a home win - but it didn't happen.

The match started quietly but with high pressure from Arna Bjørnar.  Both teams passed well which kept the contest even, and both teams tried counterattacks but without success.  The crowd waited for the Dynamite Girls to take over the play in a match that was a little too quiet.

Instead Arna Bjørnar took over the play and produced some quick counterattacks which the defence scrambled to clear, and their shots on goal were saved.  The same applied to Røa: good counterattacks, passes and shots, but they produced nothing.

The home team worked well and Marita Holmen Iversen created many good moves in midfield.  Gunhild Herregården was the pillar of the defence with good clearances and ideas, and the skipper controlled the team well.

The second half started like the first, a little too quiet.  Both teams played well and created chances but the play continued with counterattacks, shots and good chances for both teams.  Røa raised their game and the visitors started to have fewer chances, but their keeper Hilde Gunn Olsen had a good match.  At the end Røa made a big effort to score: combination, communication and the quality of play held up, and they created enormous chances.  At the end the match finished goalless, but in the second half Røa created most of the chances.

Røa - Kolbotn 1-1
« Reply #19 on: May 01, 2015, 09:07:04 AM »
Thursday's match when Kolbotn visited the Røabanen was expected to be an even match between two teams with seven points each, and it was.

Both teams went on the offensive right at the start with a lot of play up and down the field, and scoring chances both ways.  But Røa took control and after nine minutes a good cross came in from the right to Kine Kvalsvik who placed it into goal.  After that Kolbotn took more of a grip and nearly equalised several times, but Røa had several good attacks as the first half went on.  There were plenty of duels, and a high temperature on and off the pitch, with yellow cards to players on both sides.

In the second half Kolbotn grabbed the initiative and pressed forward for half an hour.  Røa defended well but in the end the visitors scored a good goal after a cross from the left.  Shiela van den Bulk's goal came in the 69th minute and there were no more goals.

After playing as a substitute in three matches Isabel Bårdsgjære played her first match as a starter.

Thursday's match was the first in round 5.  Kolbotn and Røa are in third and fourth places with eight points and goal differences of 10-6 and 6-6.
