Toppserien round 1
« Reply #20 on: March 28, 2015, 08:23:09 AM »
Saturday:
Røa v Amazon Grimstad 15.00

Sunday:
Avaldsnes v Arna-Bjørnar 15.00
Sandviken v Trondheims-Ørn 15.00
Klepp v Vålerenga 16.00
Medkila v Kolbotn 16.30
LSK Kvinner v Stabæk 17.00

We have seen eleven matches on TV from the week at La Manga via lamangatv.com, now NRK will show another four between now and the summer break :).  So there is an opening for LamangaTV/Solidtango in Norway if they fancy showing Toppserien matches (and if they can persuade the NFF who hold the rights but aren't doing much with them)  8).

If the politics are similar to elsewhere the NRK letting go of the rights would be a surprise.

Sounds like lots of exciting drama and late game heroics in the match in West Oslo today.  And tomorrow should be the same with a couple of great matchups.

Avaldsnes just monstrous favourites over Arna-Bjørnar.  You have to bet five kroner to make one, while five kroner on AB will return you 50.

LSK, Trondheim and Kolbotn are all clear favourites with Klepp and Vålerenga a coin flip.  Seems so odd seeing Stabæk at 4-1 in a domestic league play.

Could be a day of surprises.

The politics of how sport gets on TV is something we never hear about.  I don't think corporate-NRK has any enthusiasm for the Toppserien but they do a great programme on the few occasions when they cover a match, and the presenters are definitely enthusiasts.

Interesting to watch NRK's kickoff programme for the Tippeligaen, the elite men's league.  Three presenters in the studio - Carina Olset, Lise Klaveness and Tom Nordlie.  That says something. http://www.nrk.no/sport/_-det-blir-nok-jevnere-enn-i-fjor-1.12283002

Matches on line on NRK today are Avaldsnes - Arna-Bjørnar at 15.00 CET and LSK Kvinner - Stabæk at 16.45.  We don't know if these will be blocked to foreigners. http://www.nrk.no/sport/sendeplan/

. . Both matches are blocked.  The Avaldsnes match had no link until 2 minutes after kickoff time.  It all points to nobody at NRK giving it much thought.

Hi Alan, the Avaldsnes and Sandviken games aren't geoblocked.  Go here and the players are embedded on the right.

http://www.nrk.no/sport/_-det-blir-nok-jevnere-enn-i-fjor-1.12283002

Frida Magnusdottir just made it 3-1.

Sandviken up on Trondheim does not surprise me.  I think they will struggle.  I noticed someone just levelled the match but missed the goal.  Trondheim are plucky but they lost some quality people on and off the field which might have been the glue.

Avaldsnes strong up front, south of that capable but not overwhelming.

Is there not an official Toppserien match ball?  They're using white balls in one and orange in the other - a classic fail on broadcasted matches.

Someone on A-B just completely whiffed on a free uncontested open ball on the ground in Avaldsnes six which would have tied the match in the last seconds of the game.  A fortuitous gaffe giving Avaldsnes full points.

Both are full-time now.

And yet a different ball in the LSK game.

Not a big fan of things like "Matchday" or "Eterni" on the back of jerseys.

Stabæk is the opposite of Avaldsnes.  That will be an interesting match.

Not a great match today for the top two teams last season.  They look good compared to each other but neither was impressive and both teams are far from top form.

The camaraderie between two top teams was wonderful to see though.  A couple of times you saw players who were fouled get up and smile and laugh with the player who took them down.  Outstanding!  Men take note.

The official with a weak call on the PK but made up for it with a good call on the rebound off the post.

Hjelmseth is a rock and Stabæk are solid in the back and ok in the middle but the system/personnel they had up front today won't score much against the top teams.  They could play that game 10 times and maybe score in two or three of them.

Fantastic to see all the women in the stands in Lillestrøm.  A thousand screaming banner-waving men can't replicate the pride women feel when that happens.

Age profile of the Toppserien
« Reply #25 on: April 04, 2015, 12:31:35 PM »
The average age in the Toppserien this year is 22.7, compared to 22.8 last year.  The difference between the clubs is increasing.  Arna-Bjørnar has the youngest squad with an average of 19.9 (last year 21.1), while at the other end of the scale LSK Kvinner's average is 25.4 (last year 24.3).

LSK and Stabæk both have an average age of 25.4.  Stabæk's squad of 23 includes seven who are 30 or more, while LSK have two only over 30 but only three under 23 years old.  But in Arna-Bjørnar's squad there are only two players over 25.  Trondheims-Ørn has another young squad with 16 of the 23-strong squad aged under 23.  That compares with Medkila where 13 out of 18 players are under 23.

At Arna-Bjørnar the largest group is the 20-24-year-olds.  Trondheims-Ørn, Sandviken and Vålerenga also have a majority between 20 and 24, while at Medkila it is the under-20s.  At LSK and Amazon the largest group is the 25-29s.  Squad sizes range from 17 to 23.

Nice infographic.  One of the takeaways is the domestic standard of play would rise if there was a way to keep women in the game longer.  Difficult job though.

Weekend off and then teams with two in four days playing midweek and next weekend.

All midweek matches Wednesday with the exception of the Røa/Vålerenga derby Tuesday.

On the weekend some interesting ones like Avaldsnes/Kolbotn, Røa/Arna-Bjørnar and Klepp/Trondheims-Ørn.

Headline reads: Røa's tiny little signing Marita Holmen Iversen comes up huge.

Another good start out of the gate for the Westerners, the Easterners were slow out and really got on a roll in the second semester last year.

. . reading it again, there WAS video coverage, but provided by Vålerenga's web radio :).  I misunderstood that completely and missed the whole thing :).

Klepp up 1-0 on Arna-Bjørnar at half-time and 2-0 at 55' minutes.

Stabæk up 2-0 on Medkila, no surprise, you would expect the gates will open after the hour.

LSK just 2-0 final over Amazon Grimstad which may have been a one-way highway but is a bit of an underwhelming scoreline.

Kolbotn final over Sandviken by 4-0.  Synne Jensen again with the pair of second half goals.  Round one at 50' and 88', today at 58' and 84'.

And the big surprise is Avaldsnes going up 1-0 in the 2nd minute from Cecilie Pedersen but Trondheim with the stunner at 56' and and the sucker punch seconds later to go up 2-1.  Twenty minutes to go and the game will have gone from competitive to hyper-intense for all 22 players pretty quickly.

Wow.  Arna-Bjørnar with two in the second half but Klepp means business and bags another two to put them down.

Stabæk as expected ride their conditioning and pot four in the final 45 minutes.

But the stunner is Trondheim withstanding the full force of Avaldsnes and giving them a taste of defeat.

The LSK strikers should pad their egos by double-digiting Medkila in front of their friends and families.  Tough start for the northerners with LSK, Stabæk and Kolbotn out of the gate.  Not much love from the scheduler.

Other than that, matchday three has some cagey meetings.

Avaldsnes has Stabæk and LSK on deck and won't want to go into a two-game skid before meeting them.  Kolbotn have run rampant but against two softer opponents and they haven't played on grass.  This will be a great one to watch.

Trondheim will go into Klepp in high spirits after taking out Avaldsnes and the home team will be looking to keep their perfect season going.  A battle of two resilient and successful blue collar teams.

Vålerenga goes down south to Amazon Grimstad to try and get their season in gear.  But they'll have their hands full, Amazon has battled Roa 2-3 and LSK 0-2 and now back home for their opener will be primed and full measure.

An undefeated Roa go up a grade in opponent hosting Arna Bjørnar who are in the unusual position of being pointless and will have some bark in their bite to make up for it.  This will be the first turf match of the season for the Bears on Roa's new surface.  Last year each team won by a goal at home.  All the matches both teams have played this season have had early goals and then settled into a lull, be interesting to see if they dance to the same rhythm.

Stabæk got goals from a half-dozen different scorers midweek and will be looking for another emphatic win out west at Sandviken, while the locals back on their home turf will look to get back on the form they did there to start the season and catch them off guard.

Perhaps Avaldsnes will be streaming Sunday...

Favourites in order of approximate return on 10k:
Stabæk 11k / Sandviken 223k
LSK 11k / Medkila 226k
Avaldsnes 15k / Kolbotn 48k
Vålerenga 16k / Amazon Grimstad 40k
Klepp 18k / Trondheims-Ørn 32k
Røa 20k / Arna-Bjørnar 28k

Thanks for the link, I have it on the background while working and every time the announcer gets animated I look over.  He actually spoke in English a couple times which was a pleasant surprise.

Their first goal was an error by the Kolbotn keeper which got them behind the 8-ball but the next two were quality strikes.  Would have been more interesting if Kolbotn had struck first.  From the bits I've seen, the loss may not have been good for the standings but it was good for their play, Avaldsnes have more intent than they did out of the gate.

Nice interchange between the referee and Nordlie.  Don't know if it was deserved or not but kudos to her for not being intimidated and to him for taking it professionally.

Kolbotn need a couple pieces to manage what they're up against today.  Tomter and Ose would help.

Let's see how the bookmakers did:

Unfortunately for Kristine Meland and Amazon Grimstad, Medkila took the glass slipper from their fairy tale of the week.  Holding LSK to a one goal is just outstanding and certainly positions them to go on a roll up the table now that they have LSK, Stabæk and Kolbotn out of the way.  For LSK a perfect record and not giving up a goal speaks for itself, but four goals in three matches is pretty underwhelming for the league holders and this summers round of 32 Champions League representatives.

The Vålerenga supporters will be as blue as their shirts this week, and Marte Berget scoring LSK's solo goal won't help much.  And unfortunately for them it's now a progressively arduous pilgrimage ahead with Arna-Bjornar, Trondheims-Ørn, Kolbotn, Stabæk and then LSK.

Karoline Bakke got the party started today with another but unfortunately a couple minutes later Stabæk equalized via a PK and then an own-goal 15 minutes later changed the game of cat and mouse around.  And Stabæk with a lead and Stabæk behind are two very different things.

Klepp with the big home win to extend their perfect season and sit top of the table.  I would have like to have seen their odds to win the league a month ago.  Now things get real for them where they have the Medkila killer run of Kolbotn, Stabæk and LSK.

Røa stay unbeaten with the home draw against Arna-Bjornar and are a week behind Klepp in running the gauntlet with Trondheim and then, hmmm, Kolbotn, Stabæk and then LSK.

Has the scheduler always done this?  They are rolling the same pattern throughout the entire season.  This seems mad.  If you are Stabæk, every match you play, LSK plays them the following week.  That's not very sporting to them.
