Arna Bjørnar ready
« Reply #20 on: March 27, 2015, 06:37:23 PM »
Sunday the 29th marks the start of the 2015 season for Arna Bjørnar when they travel to Avaldsnes.

The match will see two different teams with two different philosophies.  Avaldsnes has used the winter to spend money on players and trainers, while AB as a club has used the time to stabilise its finances, which means there has been little activity in the transfer market.  The first goal has been achieved - the finances are in the black and the club can look forward to building up the financial and organisational
foundations, which opens up the prospect of exciting times when the summer window opens.

The media have taken up the idea that AB has lost a lot of experienced players since last season.  They are right: all clubs feel it when experienced players go, but this is a situation that this club has lived with for three or four years, and the result is that the club has got better and better despite these departures.  Bronze in 2014 came with a bigger margin than in the two previous seasons.  So instead of looking at what we have lost, we prefer to think of how we have developed.

But on paper Avaldsnes appear to be the favourites with Arna Bjørnar the underdogs, which suits us.  Arna Bjørnar will field a younger team than ever before and we know that the talents and skills are there to beat any team that turns up, but the trick is to bring out the potential.  Avaldsnes has players with high individual skills - but has Tom Nordlie had time to build a team that works as a unit? they have had useful results in training matches while Arna Bjørnar has had variable performances in training matches.

The answer will be clear on Karmøy on Sunday, with a 17.00 kickoff.

AB's Sigrid Heien Hansen suffered concussion at La Manga when she ran head-on into Rikke Storrø of Vålerenga when they were going for a loose ball.  She told JR the day after that she was recovering but was unsure of playing the opening match of the season.

Arna Bjørnar has always had one of the Toppserien's youngest playing squads, an 2015 will definitely be no exception.  Two of our youngest this year are Kristin Müller and Andrine Mo.

Kristin Müller is one of Bergen's biggest talents.  Born in October 1999 she has played for Vadmyra and FK Fyllingsdalen in Bergen, joining AB last year and training with the senior team while playing with various junior teams.  She is at Sangotna school but is trying to get a place at Tertnes VGS in the autumn.  Her ambition is to play herself into a secure place in the senior team and in the national youth teams.

Kristin has played in regional teams and has taken part in a national Under-15 meeting.  She has played with AB's seniors in training matches and at La Manga.

Andrine Mo is a real Arna girl who has followed the same path as her role-mode, Maren Mjelde.  Like Maren she played in girls' and boys' teams at IL Fri before joining Arna Bjørnar in November 2012.  She has played in some of the club's girls' teams and last summer she and the team won the Southern Cup in Kristiansand.

Born in March 2000 Andrine comes from a football family and both her father and mother played in Arna Bjørnar's senior teams.  Her ambition on the football field is to be the best player she can be and to be a regular in the club's Toppserien team.  Her dream is to play one day in the national team.  Her favourite club is Liverpool and her favourite player, as well as Maren Mjelde, is Steven Gerrard.  She is still young but now that the NFF has changed the rules about young players she could well be seen in the Toppserien this season.

Mjelde glad it's over
« Reply #22 on: March 30, 2015, 08:57:11 AM »
Avaldsnes captain Maren Mjelde had been dreading the meeting with her old club in the first round of the new season on Sunday.  "I'm thriving at Avaldsnes, so it was good to play our first match.  At the same time it's strange to play your old club", she said after the 3-2 home win over Arna-Bjørnar.

Arna-Bjørnar's Maria Brochmann thinks Mjelde is well on the way to top form.  "Avaldsnes was a good team last year as well, but they didn't quite succeed collectively.  With Maren they have a player with a big profile.  She played a good match and looked as if she is approaching peak form.  She steered most of what Avaldsnes created", said Brochmann.

"I'll take that as a compliment.  I feel in good form as well", said Mjelde herself.

It was Arna-Bjørnar that started the best, taking the lead with a goal by Ine Wedaa.  Avaldsnes answered straight away when Elise Thorsnes took the ball on the right wing before storming towards goal for the equaliser.  Frida Magnusdottir gave the home team the lead, and she scored another just after half time to give Avaldsnes a 3-1 lead.  Arna-Bjørnar were forced back into defence for long periods of the second half, but Brochmann scored a reducer at the end without affecting the result.  Ingrid Stenevik kicked air with the ball in front of her and with an open goal behind it, which could have drawn the match in the final seconds.

Avaldsnes trainer Tom Nordlie counted the chances as 14-3 in favour of his team and told NTB that they should have won by three to five goals.  "We were too highly strung at the top and were affected by first-match nerves.  We did not hold together defensively but we must look beyond the result.  This match was perhaps our worst of the winter", he said.

Maria Brochmann agreed with Nordlie's statistics and thinks Arna-Bjørnar must be tougher in duelling and try to establish their own game.

"What's it like to meet a team trained by a big name like Tom Nordlie?" - "We did not use a lot of effort on him.  But it's good that he is creating new attention for women's football.  He stood on the sidelines, bellowing at the players".

Nordlie confirmed it.  "I was very engaged because our play was surprisingly bad compared to earlier", said the trainer.

Arna-Bjørnar lost to Avalsdsnes
« Reply #23 on: March 31, 2015, 10:19:57 PM »
Arna-Bjørnar were impressed by their visit to Avalsdsnes on Sunday.  They lost, but had a chance of a draw in stoppage time.

"Ingrid (Stenevik) had a huge chance alone with the keeper to draw the match.  But it would have been flattering and a little undeserved for us to take home a point from here", said trainer Bjarne Hagen, who made his debut as the new trainer in Arna-Bjørnar's 3-2 loss to Avalsdsnes.

While all the focus has been on the home team's trainer, Tom Nordlie, it was also special, if not new, to Bjarne Hagen.  He took over from Morten Kalvenes at the end of the 2014 season.  "I stepped in when Morten was away before, but it's a new experience to be fully in charge.  It's an inspiration to be the trainer of such an ambitious group of players", said Hagen.

He was pleased with his players' efforts despite the loss.  He said they showed glimpses of the style they hope will bring in the points as the
season goes on.  "We had a good start and threatened Avaldsnes's back four with our speed, which also led to the goal", he said.  Ine Wedaa had the honour of scoring the first goal after two attempts alone with the keeper.  Only two minutes later Elise Thorsnes found the back of AB's net for the equaliser after a good solo raid from the right wing.

"We were reasonably happy with the rest of the first half, and we created some chances but it was Avaldsnes who went in with a lead, which was well deserved", the trainer admitted.  Hólmfrídur Magnúsdóttir scored the second goal for Avaldsnes after 21 minutes, and increased it to 3-1 early in the second half.  "Up to halfway in the second half we were not really in the game.  We made junior errors, and what we had discussed before the match was not carried out", he said.

Four minutes from the end hopes were raised with Maria Brochmann's goal for 3-2.  Then in stoppage time AB had a free kick just outside the box.  Brochmann's kick went into the wall, and the ball ended up with Ingrid Stenevik alone, eight yards from goal.  She kicked air, unfortunately.

"We had a real chance to steal a point, but overall we were not good enough today.  Good periods were followed by bad, and we struggled to get out of our own half for large parts of the second half, which made it difficult to score", said captain Caroline Walde.  After two months in South Africa with very little football she had been apprehensive about her personal form.  "The touch and everything that is reckoned to go after two months out were all right, but it wasn't easy to keep up either with foot or head", she said.  "It will be better as the season gets going", said the skipper.

Arna-Bjørnar Klepp today
« Reply #24 on: April 15, 2015, 04:12:30 PM »
Arna-Bjørnar will meet Klepp at Arna Idrettspark on Wednesday with a 19.00 kickoff.  Both clubs have a strategy of building from the young players from the surrounding regions, with some reinforcement from outside.

Klepp look stronger on paper this year with international names like Gry Tofte Ims and Maria Thorisdottir, and now also with former AB players like Astrid Grøttå Ree, Tuva Hansen and Hege Hansen.  They opened the season with a stong win over Vålerenga in round 1.

But Arna-Bjørnar has a good home lead over Klepp and won the training match 4-3 in February.  In the match against Avaldsnes AB had periods of dominance and they could be difficult to stop if the trend continues.

Astrid has sent us this message:
1. It's always special to meet old friends.  I had a fantastic time at Arna-Bjørnar and wish you all everything good, but when we meet at The Park only one thing matters: a Klepp win.
2. We have strengthened our squad since last year and have ambitions in the league this year.  I think it's extra good to have the Hansen sisters back on home ground.
3. Every day is hectic but fun.  As well as training every day I work as a physiotherapist.  The rest of the time I spend with my boyfriend, family and friends.

Arna-Bjørnar 2 Klepp 4
« Reply #25 on: April 15, 2015, 09:42:27 PM »
Hege Hansen played for Arna-Bjørnar for a few years and was their top scorer last year.  Now she is back at Klepp where she came from, and on Wednesday she played a big match against her old teammates.

"I felt it because I don't begrudge good things for these girls at Arna-Bjørnar.  I was there so long and was very happy with all the girls and the club.  So I felt a bit guilty but now it's Klepp that matters to me, so this was as good as it could be", said Hege Hansen.

Only ten minutes had gone by when the 24-year-old showed how much Arna-Bjørnar missed her.  A mistake at the back gave her the chance of a lob and 0-1.  Arna-Bjørnar had started well but needed a little time to come back in.  Then Cecilie Kvamme broke forward on the right and played across to Ine Wedaa in the box.  Wedaa went to ground but the referee declined to award a penalty.  Arna-Bjørnar's biggest chance before half time came in the 39th minute when Lisa Naalsund went through the defence, but under pressure she placed the ball wide.

Early in the second half the referee was again in the spotlight.  This time Wedaa was brought down outside the box in a way that suggested a free kick and a red card to some.  But she waved play on, to the despair of the home crowd.

After 55 minutes Hansen was forward again, leaving Åsne Takle Eide behind and playing the ball to Gry Tofte Ims who broadsided the ball into goal for 0-2.  Seven minutes later Hansen used her speed again and shot the ball into the corner of the net, and the visitors were 0-3 up.  "I used my skills well, and when you are flying you just have to go ahead and try.  I don't know if I have scored with my left foot before but today I tried it and it worked", she said with a smile.

It was a bad result for AB but Amalie Eikeland produced the best goal with a 33-yard shot into the top-corner of the net after 66 minutes.  Both teams scored after that and the final result was 2-4.

AB trainer Bjarne Hagen was not too worried.  "For me this isn't important.  I'm interested in our performance and our result, and not who scores for the opponents.  But it's obvious that we let her through a bit too easily.  We mustn't allow easy goals like that and we need to get the defence right before the next match", he said.

Røa – Arna-Bjørnar 0-0
« Reply #26 on: April 20, 2015, 07:35:31 PM »
Arna-Bjørnar took their first point of the season away at Røa on Sunday.  "It was very important to take the point after losing the first two matches, which hasn't helped our confidence.  Now we can start to rebuild", said trainer Bjarne Hagen.

"Before Sunday's match Røa we had a big focus on the defence, and we managed it", said Hagen.  "now we must just continue to raise our performances".

The first half was a long yawn without big scoring chances.  After half time AB took more of a grip and created some danger in front of Røa's goal.  But in the last quarter-hour Røa controlled most of the play.  "To be honest we were lucky not to concede a goal in that period.  The defence and keeper were doing well but we had a lot of luck as well", said the trainer.

Arna-Bjørnar 3 Vålerenga 4
« Reply #27 on: April 27, 2015, 08:35:56 AM »
For the first time in 22 years Arna-Bjørnar lost at home to Vålerenga in the Toppserien, despite two goals by Tina Algrøy and one by Lisa Naalsund.

"It's really bitter.  We feel we are a better team than them, but Vålerenga scored the most goals and that's how matches are won.  Really disappointing", said Amalie Eikeland.  On Sunday the home team had the most chances, the most possession and the most corners, but still they lost 3-4.  It was a reality-check for the team that has won three bronze medals in the last three seasons.

"We have had a poor start and this is just too bad.  We scored three goals and that should be enough to win a match, but we let in easy goals.  Now we must look forward and work hard to learn from this", said Eikeland.

Arna-Bjørnar seemed to have full control in the first half.  The home team had the ball and created chances.  But instead it was the visitors who scored, on what what was just about their first chance in 45 minutes.  Things quickly went from bad to worse for Arna-Bjørnar three minutes into the second half when Ingrid Stenevik sent a back pass to dispossess Ane Lise Olsen on her way forward, but it went into her own goal.

Lisa Naalsund reduced the score to 1-2 with a nice solo raid after 60 minutes when she put the ball up under the crossbar, and then supersub Tina Algrøy equalised five minutes after running on.  But then the match went away from them with Anne Lise Olsen's second goal for Vålerenga before Johanne Fridlund battled in a return after a free kick at the end.  Algrøy's late goal was no more than a consolation.

"We deserved better than no points from this match.  To let in two goals after we got ourselves back in again is extremely disappointing and irritating", said Lisa Naalsund.

Amazon Grimstad - Arna-Bjørnar 1-3
« Reply #28 on: May 01, 2015, 09:09:33 PM »
Neither Sandviken nor Arna-Bjørnar had won a match until today when Arna-Bjørnar visited Grimstad for their round-5 match.  Today Arna-Bjørnar had a good 1-3 away win on Norway's south-east coast.  "Clearly it's good for our players to take three points.  We have improved our play since the opening match against Avaldsnes, but we have been poorly rewarded in some matches", said trainer Bjarne Hagen to BA.  The win puts AB in 8th place, with the round to be completed tomorrow with three more matches.

Lisa Naalsund gave AB the lead after six minutes, but it was followed later in the first half by an equaliser from Amazon skipper Kristine Meland.  In the second half Arna-Bjørnar renewed their lead when Sigrid Heien Hansen scored in the 58th minute, and only five minutes later Tina Algrøy made it 1-3, a result that stood at the end of the match.

With this AB have perhaps started their climb up the table.  They have taken bronze for the last three years and want to be no worse this year.  "We know we must work really hard to make this the start of a recovery, but this showed the way for the mental processes to gain confidence", said the trainer.

Hagen was nearly taking off when BA spoke to him, but he was about to leave on the plane back to Bergen.  It will take more than an away win over Amazon for the team to bring about a recovery.

Kristin Muller made her Toppserien debut today and we congratulate Sigrid Heien Hansen on her first Toppserien goal. http://arna-bjornar.no

Comfortable win for Arna-Bjørnar
« Reply #29 on: May 07, 2015, 11:10:16 PM »
"We created 15-20 big chances", said trainer Bjarne Hagen after the win over Kaupanger in the Cup second round.

"Are you disappointed there were not more goals?" - "When we play Toppserien football at the weekend we will have to be better in front of goal, but the way we took control of this match and dominated it is good".

There was not a lot of room for big changes in the team.  From an already thin squad Kristin Muller (15) was away with Norway's Under-16s in Portugal, but Hagen substituted some youngsters.  The second-half goals were scored by Andrine Mo (15) and Synnøve Arefjord (17), and also Rikke Nygard (15) played the last half hour.

After a difficult start to the season AB had their first win last weekend against Amazon and they will play away at Trondheims-Ørn this coming weekend.  "We will meet a team with a good share of self-confidence but we are going to Trondheim to win", said Bjarne Hagen.

Arna Bjørnar-Kolbotn 1-1
« Reply #30 on: May 14, 2015, 02:05:25 PM »
Wednesday's match against Kolbotn was a long step in the right direction for Arna Bjørnar.  Intensity was back, along with passing quality, and if the finishing could have been a little more clinical the home team could have had all three points.

The first half was a insecure by both teams and we noticed that Kolbotn had a bit more of a grip, but the closest they came to scoring was a shot on the crossbar.  Then AB took over more and more and controlled the rest of the half.  A shot on a Kolbotn post deserved a better outcome, but then after 35 minutes AB was given a penalty after a Kolbotn player handled the ball.  Lisa Naalsund sent the keeper into one corner and the ball into the other, and Arna Bjørnar were ahead.

In the second half Kolbotn brought in Solveig Gulbrandsen who created good passing and forward play by her teammates, and AB answered by raising their game as well.  But a counterattack up Kolbotn's left side came through a bit too easily and what looked like a pass ended up in goal and the score was 1-1.

Arna Bjørnar then started to show better and better play, with combination play that worked, but the finishing was still weak.  Kolbotn had a couple of counterattacks that could have been dangerous, but their finishing was not good enough either.  We did not count the corners but the impression was that there were ten to three in Arna Bjørnar's favour.

It was a match that AB could have won with better finishing, and the whole team played well.  Sigrid Heien Hansen cut a fine figure when she came in, and Vilde Bøe Risa and Karoline Haugland were aggressive and good in their play.  And we congratulate Benedicte Haaland on her debut in the Toppserien.

The performance of all the players was good to see and their disappointment afterwards showed that they also believe they should have won.  Kolbotn looked a little uneven but with good individual players.  They made good counterattacks but also lacked finishing quality.

Last year she played in the national team but on Wednesday she was dropped from her club team.  "The situation between Benedicte Håland and Hilde Gunn is that Benedict deserves to stand", said Arna-Bjørnar's trainer, Bjarne Hagen to Bydgdanytt.

Hilde Gunn Olsen was a Toppserien keeper for Klepp, Amazon Grimstad and Røa before she moved to Sweden and Linkøping last season.  Before the start of this season she moved back to Norway and Arna-Bjørnar, but she has let in 13 goals, which is an average of two per match.

As late as last October Hilde Gunn Olsen was in the Under-23s, trained by Gøril Kringen.  On Wedesday she was dropped and sat on the bench.  Things go up and down quickly.

Re: Arna-Bjørnar 2015

Ine Wedaa had a bit of a shock in a training match when Arna-Bjørnar's Toppserien team met a boys' team.  She clashed heads in a heading duel with an opponent.  "It was a good crack and I had a shock when I saw the bump afterwards.  It was the sort you normally read about in comics", she said with a smile.

Her teammates and support team were relieved when they realised that the bump was not as bad as it looked.  "When they knew it was all right they all had a good laugh about it", said Wedaa.

"We quickly thought it was a serious injury, but the worry soon went away", said trainer Bjarne Hagen.

It took only a few hours for the swelling to go down and when BA spoke to the player later in the afternoon her humour had returned.  "The bruise is nearly gone compared to what it was like at the start, and I have no headache.  I did have to start with, but now I feel fine again", said Ine Wedaa.

Brochmann renews contract
« Reply #33 on: June 25, 2015, 07:56:12 PM »
Maria Brochmann has made her breakthrough this year, and Arna-Bjørnar has now secured the 22-year-old's signature on a new contract taking her to the end of 2016.

"Many teams have shown an interest in her, so we are very glad that she has decided to stay with us", said management leader Siv Lekven of the women's group in the club.  Brochmann was originally signed until the end of 2015 but Arna-Bjørnar did not want to take a chance on the midfielder being snapped up by another club after the end of the present season.

"It's always good to be noticed for the performances you have put in.  There's a lot of hard work behind all this and it gives me more
motivation to improve", said Brochmann.

"Have you been tempted by other offers?" - "I know I can develop my game at Arna-Bjørnar and that is the club that is on my focus.  It's great that other clubs have been interested but I feel my best chance is here at Arna-Bjørnar for the moment", she said.

Things have gone quickly for Brochmann since she came to Arna-Bjørnar for the 2014 season.  This year she has been picked for the national U23s and also for the A-team in the buildup for the World Cup.  "There's a big difference in my new contract", said Brochmann, who this year expects to complete her bachelor degree in economics and administration.  "I can't live from football and will have to work outside as well, but as long as it isn't too much that will be ok.  I will have finished studying in the autumn but hope to do enough work to survive financially and focus on football".

Arna-Bjørnar will meet LSK Kvinner at home on July 19 in the opening match of the second half of the 2015 season.  Two weeks before that they will start training in full, but they have individual training programmes over the holiday period.  "We are using the summer well", said
Brochmann.

The World Cup has given her more motivation.  "Although it hasn't gone as we hoped it was really fantastic.  Watching it on TV gives every player a huge motivation to work harder.  It's something I would like to experience every day", said Maria Brochmann.

Nautnes signs for Arna-Bjørnar
« Reply #34 on: July 01, 2015, 01:55:33 PM »
Fortuna Ålesund striker Emilie Nautnes has signed for Arna-Bjørnar who announced the transfer today.  Nautnes is a Norwegian youth international player and is at present in Denmark playing in a tournament with the Under-16s.  She scored Norway's goal in their win over Iceland yesterday.

New keeper for Arna-Bjørnar
« Reply #35 on: July 16, 2015, 08:12:01 AM »
Arna-Bjørnar has recruited a keeper from the USA - Megan Rae Kinneman.

"Megan is from Houston Dash and has trained with Arna-Bjørnar for the last week.  With Benedicte Håland she will make a good keeper team", said the club on its web site.

Kinnemann is from Texas County, Missouri and was born on October 6 1992.  Before playing at Houston Dash she was at Louisiana State University (LSU).  She finished her college career with a record 284 saves and had the most clean-sheets in LSU's history.  In the 2010 season seh let in 0.66 goals per  match on average.  In addition she scored a record three penalties at LSU.

Arna-Bjørnar – LSK 0-1
« Reply #36 on: July 20, 2015, 10:00:42 AM »
Arna-Bjørnar's team of young players had to yield to LSK Kvinner on Sunday afternoon but it was far from a one-way street.

There was never a period in which the home team were overrun at Arna Idrettspark by the the team of full time professionals like Emilie Haavi, Lene Mykjåland, Marita Skammelsrud Lund and their teammates.  The home team, which seems to get younger all the time, made them work.

"Today we performed like a grown-up team against what is undoubtedly Norway's best club team", said trainer Bjarne Hagen.  It's easy to focus on Arna Bjørnar's position in the lower half of the table, with six points from nine matches, but with 15- and 16-year-olds in the team they might well have taken three points against the league leaders.

"It wasn't the worlds worst performance here, today?" - "No, and without counting them up I would say we won on chances.  So it feels very bitter for the girls to have to go home without points.  When we talk to them about today's match we can point to the performance.  Compared with many of the matches earlier in the season this was noticeably better.  What happens in the autumn is up to us and it's going to be better than the spring", said the trainer.

"How did the players handle the situation?" - "They were good and professional.  Results have not been good and the performances have not been optimal either, we're clear about that.  At the same time we have been better than the results suggest and we have not had the points we deserved".

"But Arna-Bjørnar were always at the top under Morten Kalvenes.  In the winter you took over after having been the assistant.  It looks as if it isn't a coincidence that the team is struggling now?" - "No, and that isn't what Morten would say, either.  We have had several seasons when things have gone well even when the play did not look brilliant.  Just now the margin have not been with us.  And in the last five years we have lost players steadily every season.  The difference from previous years is that we have not been able to replace the ones who have gone.  So you see 14- and 15-year-olds coming in instead", said Hagen.

Sunday's 1-0 match was an entertaining affair, with 13-22 shots on goal in favour of LSK.  The teams each had their chances, especially Amalie Eikeland who could well have made it 1-1 and 2-1 for Arna-Bjørnar.  She had a header on to a post, and a chance alone with the keeper which went straight to the keeper.  "It shows that we still have the capacity to match the best", said the trainer.

"Has the loss of players weakened Arna-Bjørnar?" - "I don't necessarily agree.  Obviously losses over time will affect the level one way or another, but today's performance shows that we can still keep up with the best teams.  We don't expect any medals this year but in time we will not be so far down the table", said Hagen.

Sandviken lost on Sunday after having shocked Røa by taking an early lead.  Arna-Bjørnar are in 9th place with Sandviken in 10th with one point fewer.  They have a better goal difference than Amazon Grimstad, while Medkila are 12th with four points.

"Arna-Bjørnar must turn a new page" - Mjelde
« Reply #37 on: July 20, 2015, 10:20:29 AM »
On Sunday, club hero Maren Mjelde watched her former teammates losing - again.  The former top team is struggling in 9th place with a meagre six points.  Mjelde thinks the team must do the same as it did under Morten Kalvenes in 2006 and build up a new spirit.

Kalvenes took the team to bronze in the last three years, and the A-team produced a top player every single year - who then went on her way in the search for a life as a professional in the clubs in East Norway or in foreign lands.

In 2013 it was Maren Mjelde who went.  After a time in Germany with Turbine Potsdam and then in Sweden at Kopparbergs-Göteborg she is now back home as a professional and the captain of Avaldsnes's team of international players from the four corners of the Earth.

She hopes her old team will find its way back to winning ways.  "I think they played well today.  They showed they are a better team than the table shows, and I believe they can do it", she told Bergens Avisa after the 0-1 loss to LSK Kvinner.

Against LSK Emilie Nautnes made her debut: the 16-year-old comes from division-1 with Fortuna Ålesund and is an international U17 player.  As the match went on Andrine Mo came on as a sub: she is 15 and broke the club's record as the youngest Toppserien player.

"There are very many young girls out there, and they have a great potential.  They just have to keep at it and build the team round the most talented of them", said Mjelde.

Medkila – Arna-Bjørnar 2-3
« Reply #38 on: July 25, 2015, 09:20:26 AM »
Arna-Bjørnar scored three goals in the last half-hour to take all the points in Harstad on Friday.

Arna-Bjørnar's season has been a nightmare so far, and when Medkila's captain Rosie Malone-Povolny put her team into the lead after 40 minutes things were looking black.  "In the first half we had only one shot on goal", said trainer Bjarne Hagen.

"There was a discussion at half time.  We had to mobilise", said the trainer.  But it produced no quick solution and Medkila went into a 2-0 lead soon after.  "I don't know what happened then but we started to make direct attacks.  We had the 1-2 goal fairly quickly and recovered some belief".

As the second half went on it seemed that the Bergen players remembered that they usually beat Medkila, and five minutes from the end the 2-2 equaliser came.  In the summer break they recruited a new keeper, Megan Kinnemann (23) from the USA and Emilie Nautnes (17) from Fortuna Ålesund.  Both players had a good match and in stoppage time Nautnes came through alone with the keeper and was brought down.  The referee gave a red card and a penalty, and Maria Brochmann made no mistake from the 12-yard spot.

"I must praise the girls for turning the match round with three goals in 30 minutes.  It was very important to stop our losing streak and take a win at last.  Tonight I can sleep well".  He comforted former Arna-Bjørnar keeper Erin McNulty after the match.  "I gave her a hug after the match - she was very upset and in tears", said Bjarne Hagen.
