Promotion and relegation WSL 1 / WSL 2
« on: February 17, 2014, 04:33:25 PM »
"The following promotion and relegation shall be applied:

At the end of the Matches for each Season, the last placed Club in FA WSL1 shall be relegated to FA WSL 2 and replaced by the Champion Club of FA WSL2, provided that such Champion Club meets all criteria for admission to FA WSL 1 (including facility, finance, corporate governance, staffing and other business and management criteria) as has been notified to Clubs prior to the start of the playing season (the “Minimum Criteria”).

In the event that the Champion Club is not able to meet such criteria within a timeframe prescribed by The Football Association following the end of the Season, the second finishing team in FA WSL 2 shall be promoted to FA WSL 1, subject to it meeting such Minimum Criteria within the relevant timeframe. In the event that the second finishing team is also unable to meet the Minimum Criteria, the last placed Club in FA WSL 1 shall remain in FA WSL1.

Should the fixture programme for FA WSL One or FA WSL 2 not be completed by the end of a Season, the Management Committee shall be empowered to decide all matters of promotion and relegation as deemed appropriate."

Very interesting especially for the 2nd placed team in WSL 2.

Isn't it incredible that an organisation with the financial acumen and corporate governance of a banana republic, places so much emphasis on money management in relation to WSL promotion and relegation. After engineering the success of its chosen few by a series of arbitrary, non playing related criteria, it retains the right to ultimately decide the membership of its exclusive little club.

the rules are the same for the men with regards the ground etc, so any movement towards relegation etc is a bonus.

The rules for men are only facility based. As long as the grounds meet the criteria then a club can go all the way to the top from non league. ala Wimbledon and wigan Athletic.  Yes it could be said that they  bought their way there but ultimately they had to make their way up the pyramid. Not just come up with a good business plan and voila youre there!

Thank goodness no-one reviews the men's (FFP) business plans otherwise you wouldn't get success stories like Portsmouth & Leeds. Oh! Wait... :P

thats the risk the clubs take.  I like FFP thats now been brought in and would hope a similar scheme will eventually be adopted in the womens game.

exactly as i said, rules the same about grounds, but any movement is a bonus.

having said that , without the pressure on the fa, i doubt these rules would have applied, in fact , reading the rules only mentions relegation etc, in a later passage.
well done for the pressure.

So the latest FA WSL has seen a review of the original timeline for checking the promotion / relegation criteria checks.

I understand there is a vote to come to validate changes.
Timeframe to announce team who are allowed to go up will be at the end of the season rather than late in the year ( December)
