U16 Inter County Cup
« on: January 25, 2012, 07:48:37 PM »
Watched the ESFA U16 inter county cup quarter final night between Derbyshire and Durham (last years winners)   Wow what a match. The county teams are made up of say roughly 50 percent CoE players and the remainder top flight GR club players.  That match was probably one of the best junior female matches I have ever seen - so fast paced and skillful.   Derbyshire won 4-2 but it could have gone either way with score being 2-2 into the 2nd half with end to end play- nail biting stuff  ;D.  Both teams were a credit for their energy, drive, skill and determination to win.

Look forward to the semis which will be :

Derbyshire v (Notts or Lancs)

Hampshire V Middlesex

Looking forward to it.  I have found these matches far better than CoE matches.  The girls come away with such a buzz, exhilaration and enjoyment its fabulous to watch.

Although a mix of GR and CoE its just shows theres such talent in the GR.

The final for whoever gets through to play Hampshire is at Rotherham United 12th March 1pm.  Great venue for girls footy.

The other one is the northern competition Cheeks, while the one between Derbyshire and Lancashire is the national competition.

The other thread relates to the Northern Counties Schools FA Leagues

Final unlikely to be 4th April if Lancs are successful due to player unavailability.

ESFA Inter County semi final

Derbyshire 2 Lancashire 2 after extra-time , Lancashire win 3-1 on penalties.

Good, competetive game that Derbyshire can count themselves unlucky to lose. 2-2 probably a fair result but Lancashire took the better penalties and the Lancashire keeper made 1 brilliant save.

Should be an interesting final!

If you hear when and where the final is being played, I would be interested to know, as I would like to see it.

I missed the Hampshire semi in Feb as it never appeared on the ESFA site till after it was played !

Hi

always awful to lose to penalties ... heartbreaking  >:(

Over all a pretty equal game.   Great standard of football from both teams.

Well done Lancashire - hope they do well in final  ;D

The final was an excellent game between Hampshire & Lancashire with the game finishing 3 – 3 after extra time and Hampshire winning 5 - 4 on penalties.
Lancashire were the dominant team in the first half playing some excellent football and should have been ahead, but simply lacked the final pass or clinical finish. Hampshire then scored against the run of play with a looping shot into the top corner. The second half was much closer with Lancashire scoring two goals to take the lead, with the game then becoming end to end with Hampshire equalising each time Lanc’s went in front. The game finished at 3 -3 and remained the same after extra time.
The performances of both teams was of an excellent standard ,with skilful committed football being played throughout the game which was also played in a great spirit. The match was a real showpiece of girls youth football and all concerned deserve great credit for their undoubted quality and endeavour.
