Santos FC folds
« on: January 04, 2012, 10:39:14 AM »
The club that once was home to Brazilian stars Marta, Cristiane, Erika, and Maurine is no longer. Santos FC President Luis Alvaro de Oliveira Ribeiro made the announcement today that the women’s club is folding. The reason for the women’s team’s demise was reportedly due to lack of funding. It was also reported that the amount of money spent per month on Neymar, who plays for the Santos men, was equal to the entire Santos FC women’s team’s spending.

Santos was one of the most successful women’s clubs in South America, winning the Copa Libertadores de Fútbol Femenino twice (2009, 2010) and the Copa do Brasil de Futebol Feminino twice (2008, 2009). Santos claimed the Campeonato Paulista de Futebol Feminino three times – 2011, 2010, and 2007. The team’s most current roster featured Erika, midfielder Ester, and keeper Andréia.

They also axed their successful "futsal" team to channel more cash to the ludicrously coiffured twerp.

Reminds me of when British Channel 4's excellent women's football coverage was abruptly halted when they bizarrely forked out £2.5m to show Paul Gascoigne not playing for Lazio.

This despite the women's football THRASHING Gazza's Soccer School in the ratings.

Neymar is no great shakes. The new-new-new-new-new Pele.

I think he'll do well to emulate one of the last "new Peles" Giovanni who came to Europe and enjoyed mild success with Barcelona.

They should have sold him for £40M and then invest money on the women's team. They are not really clever lol.
