Glasgow City 4  ŽFK Spartak 0

Glasgow City got off to a flying start in their opening UEFA Champions League group qualifier with a good win against local side ŽFK Spartak.  The Serbians were considered to be the toughest side in the group and they almost opened the scoring inside the first minute when a Mirela Tenkov shot forced a save from Clare Johnstone.  A few minutes later Johnstone was in action again to save from Jelena Čubrilo. City though came more into the game and with just seven minutes in Christie Murray opened the scoring for the Glasgow side when she took the ball from a Leanne Ross pass to let fly from just outside the area.  Jo Love then came close to increasing the score line when she successive cracks at goal on the 14th and 20th minutes.  Within a few minutes City were 2-0 up when Kat Lindner fired home and about 5 minutes after that it was 3-0 when Christie Murray got her second of the day.  There were more chances for Jo Love and Jane Ross.  Emma Fernon also forced a save from the Spartak keeper Ljiljana Gardijan before the end of the half.

In the second period City pressed for more goals with more chances falling to Christie Murray who forced a series of saves from Gardijan.  Eilish McSorley and Emma Mitchell also had chances and captain Rachel Corsie had her effort from a Fernon corner blocked.  City made changes bringing in Lisa Evans for Jane Ross and she came close within a few minutes of coming on.  Emma Wooley and Danica Dalziel also came on for the Glasgow side as the game neared its conclusion.  City were still pressing for goals and Jo Love came close once again this tim with a free kick but the game was into time added on when Lindner rounded off the scoring with her second goal and City's forth.  A cut back from the left was layed off to Emma Woolley but her shot was cleared off the line but Lindner was on hand to stroke the ball home to round off a good start to the competition.  The other group match was a battle between Island nations with KÍ Klaksvík from the Faroes taking a narrow 1-0 win against the Malta side Mosta.
