Nigeria expelled
« on: October 05, 2010, 01:00:52 AM »
FIFA has suspended Nigeria from international matches both for clubs and international teams.

The reason is that the Nigerian government interferes with the country's football association (NFF).  The suspension will last until the NFF can operate independently again.

The mills of God grind slowly...

These decisions usually get reversed in a matter of weeks as the government realises who actually controls the balance of power, but Nigeria only have five days now as the men are due to play an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Guinea this weekend, and a forfeit tends to mean disqualification from the entire tournament. On the women's front, their African Cup of Nations is a mere four weeks away.
