Sundhage to continue
« on: December 17, 2008, 09:54:58 AM »
The USA WNT's Swedish trainer, Pia Sundhage, will continue as trainer until the London Olympics in 2012.

Sundhage (48) led the USA to Olympic Gold in Beijing in August.  She was brought in in November 2007 when Greg Ryan's contract ended after a disappointing 3rd-place in the World Cup.

Norway is the only team that has beaten the USA since Sundhage took over.  It happened when the teams met at the Beijing Olympics.  Apart from that the team has had 32 wins and two draws under Sundhage's leadership.

"She has demonstrated good leadership, has good tactics and is a winner-type", said the USA's football president, Sunli Gulati.

Pia Sundhage has a new assistant:  Hege Riise from Norway is leaving her club in Oslo and moving to the USA early in 2008 to take up the appointment as Assistant Trainer to the USA WNT.
