Having won the first semifinal leg at home at Gerland (3-2) Olympique Lyonnaise were in good position to qualify for the Final. Jean-Michel Aulas and Bernard Lacombe were with the first team at Gammliavallen in Umeå, on a new artificial pitch with a stadium still under construction.

The first excitement was created by Elodie Thomis on the left who advanced on goal but could not get the ball on to her right foot to threaten the keeper.  Then in the 10th minute Ingvild Stensland missed with a left-foot shot.

OL had fright when keeper Sarah Bouhaddi was caught off her line, but there was no real danger.  Umeå's Pettersen, scorer of two goals in the first leg, was injured and replaced by Molin.  Umeå remained dangerous.

OL's best chance came from Lara Dicknmann from a pass by Stensland, but the shot went to Bouhaddi.  The teams went in at half time with the score at 0-0 but OL were not out of the woods because Umeå needed only one goal for an overall draw and a win in the tie with their two away goals.

OL continued to press after the break but lacked precision in finishing.  They were baulked by keeper Jönsson and neither Amandine Henry nor Shirley Cruz could make a mark.

In the 65th minute Dickenmann had a good shot saved by Bouhaddi.  Umeå made several changes but OL managed to hold out until the final whistle.  A score of 0-0 meant that OL are through to th Final on May 20 in Madrid to face Turbine Potsdam.

Champions League semifinal second leg.
Umeå v Olympique Lyonnaise, Gamliavallen Stadium, Umeå, April 28 2010.
Umeå 0 Olympique Lyonnaise 0; OL win 3-2 on aggegate.
Cards: Stensland (23), Necib (65), OL; Molin (82), Umea.

Olympique Lyonnaise:
Sarah Bouhaddi -
Corine Franco, Wendie Renard, Laura Georges, Amelie Rybeck -
Shirley Cruz, Amandine Henry, Ingvild Stensland, Lara Dickenmann -
Louisa Necib, Elodie Thomis.

Olympique Lyonnaise women's team played their first training match in preparation for the new season.  The team played under the eye of their new trainer, Patrice Lair.

August 14:  Lyon did not disappoint their new trainer.  Lotta Schelin was active from the start and scored the 1-0 goal in the second minute of the match with a free kick by Ingvild Stensland who was excellent.  After that Lara Dickenmann had several face-to-face opportunities to score but Lyon had to wait until the end of the second half to see the lead doubled, when Lotta Schelin took advantage of an unfortunate defensive error.

In the second half after nine changes Lyon benefited from the play of new recruit Eugenie le Sommer, who scored the 3-0 goal assisted by Louisa Necib.

On Monday twelve OL players will leave to join their national teams for a ten-day period of qualification matches for the World Cup.  The rest of the group will go on a weekend trip to Claix.

Olympique Lyonnaise, 1st half: Pons - Dusang, Viguier, Georges, Akherraze - Cruz, Stensland, Dickenmann - Herlovsen, Schelin, Kaci.

Olympique Lyonnaise, 2nd half: Bouhaddi - Berthet, Viguier, Georges, Renard - Franco, Henry, Nécib - Brétigny, Le Sommer, Thomis.

Eleven Olympique Lyonnaise players were in action in the World Cup qualification matches played last week.

France: The national team achieved first place in their group with a 1-0 win over Iceland.  Laura Georges, Corine Franco, Elodie Thomis and Louisa Nécib started the match, and Eugénie Le Sommer replaced Necib with 20 minutes left to play. Sandrine Dusang and Sabrina Viguier were on the bench.

Norway: Ingvild Stensland, captain, and Isabell Herlovsen who went on as a substitute after an hour, had a 4-0 win over Slovakia.  They are looking to win the group with Netherlands in second place.

Sweden: Lotta Schelin's team were assured of their place at the head of their group with a 1-0 win over the Czech Republic.  Schelin played 90 minutes.

Switzerland: captain Lara Dickenmann and Switzerland took first place over Russia by beating Kazakhstan 8-0 in Fribourg.

A little late, but OL won their last friendly vs Yzeure Allier Auvergne (formerly known as Nord Allier Yzeure) last weekend.

Goals:

1-0 Le Sommer
2-0 Cruz
3-0 Schelin

Isabell Herlovsen, Lara Dickenmann and ELodie Thomis didn't play due to injuries.

First day of the D1 for OL tomorrow as they'll face Toulouse.

The roster:
Goalkeepers : Bouhaddi, Pons
Defenders : Georges, Viguier, Renard, Akherraze
Midfielders : Franco, Cruz, Stensland, Henry, Kaci, Nécib, Dickenmann
Forwards : Schelin, Le Sommer, Brétigny

Dusang and Herlovsen played today with the reserve because they aren't fit and it seems like Isabell was subbed out due to a knee injury during the game. Some fans said it wouldn't be too serious, but we'll see. Elodie Thomis is still injuried.

As a Norway fan, I should be worried about this, but we're a) playing Ukraine and b) Herlovsen peaked at 16.

Guess Lyon have alternatives what with the Breton girl coming in too. You don't know today's result against Toulouse, by any chance?

I'm known everywhere, how annoying ;D

...Forum where I forgot to mention Shirley Cruz missing a pk in the last 20 minutes.

Lyon (4-3-3):

Bouhaddi
Franco-Georges-Viguier-Renard
Henry(Stensland 59e)-Cruz-Nécib (Kaci 75e)
Le Sommer- Schelin (Brétigny 53e)-Dickenmann

For Samuel and the norwegian fans: I got to talk to Isabell before the match and she told me that her injuriy was supposed to last 3 weeks and as it's now the end of the second one, she feels confident that she can play when she's back. She doesn't know if she'll be able to play for the NT this week but she's still going there tomorrow.

That's for the update about her.

And yes, Lyon has the Brétigny-Kaci (polyvalent player) alternatives. The Dickenmann-Schelin-Le Sommer trio was very interesting today, but we'd like to see what Isa can do given that a new season is starting.

I also forgot to mention an other injury yesterday: Pauline Peyraud-Magnin our young 3rd GK got a serious knee injury. It happened during the warm-up. She -apparently- did not tear her ACL but will be out for a while.

OL runs rings round Russians - four for Lotta
« Reply #73 on: November 05, 2010, 07:07:29 PM »
Lotta Schelin scored four goals when Olympique Lyonnaise beat Rossiyanka 6-1 in the away leg of the 1/8 final of the Champions League.

Schelin's first goal came after 11 minutes and she scored two in each half.  She was substituted in the 79th minute.  "Not bad", she said.  "I have never been in Russia before".

In the last match in the Champions League Schelin scored a hat-trick against AZ Alkmaar.

The OL team :

Not used Viguier Peyraud-Magnin

Lotta is unstoppable

Alan is quite right as Lotta scored two important goals for OL today against last year's second best team of D1. She actually had scored another one but the ref called it back (offside position).

OL 7, Juvisy 1.

Goals for Lyon : Amandine Henry 2', Lotta Schelin 10', 50', Louisa Necib 29', 63', Sandrine Brétigny 78', 87'.
For Juvisy : Laëtitia Tonazzi 31' .

Abily for Lyon and Soubeyrand for Juvisy both missed a pk.

OL:
Pons – Renard, Georges, Viguier, Bompastor – Henry (Dusang 57e), Abily (Dickenmann 46e), Cruz – Thomis, Schelin (Brétigny 66ee), Nécib.

Bouhaddi, Franco and Stensland are still injuried.
