CNMI Women to face Guam anew
« on: February 14, 2007, 03:27:06 PM »
Local ladies have a landmark event ahead of them a month and a half from now when the CNMI sends its first national team to Guam for the inaugural Guam/Saipan Inter-Island Cup.

According to Northern Mariana Islands Football Association Women's League coordinator Brenda Schultz, the organizers of the hometown program received confirmation that the first of at least two games will kick off the home-and-home series on April 1.

Schultz said that Saipan will play host to the experienced and talented Guamanians in 2008 as the local ladies compete in their first meaningful international matches under the watchful eye of newly named coach, Jeff “Ziggy” Korytoski.

The news comes just days after a group of local ladies traveled to Guam for a series of friendly matches in which they gained valuable experience from their southern counterparts, both on and off the field.

Schultz said that 18 players will be selected to the Women's National team by coach Korytoski after determining who has the skills and determination to earn the right to march behind the latte stone, star, and mwarmwar.

Daily practices for the rest of the week include a 5:30am session at American Memorial Park this morning and a 4:30pm session at American Memorial Park tomorrow. Information about this weekend's schedule may be obtained by attending practice this morning or tomorrow afternoon and all questions may be addressed to team manager Aaron Rath.
