Football boss says NZOC has a selection challenge
« on: March 10, 2008, 07:27:52 AM »
New Zealand football's chief executive Graham Seatter says it'll be a real challenge for the New Zealand Olympic committee to decide whether or not to send men's and women's football teams to Beijing.

The NZOC 's selection policy requires teams to have the ability to reach the second round, a stretch for both.

But Seatter says if a country's that's qualified choses not go the NZOC has to consider more than the players' disappointment as Oceania's worked hard to retain direct entry to tournaments.

He says it would create quite a difficult and embarrassing positiion for FIFA if they had to consider sending the second best teams from the weakest confederation.

And Seatter says he's also concerned that the decision could seen abroad as New Zealand Football's and not the NZOC's.
