Becky receives England call
« on: December 22, 2007, 10:20:02 AM »
A prospective new attacker for England, Rebecca Angus, has had a call-up to join Hope Powell's senior international squad at their training camp in La Manga, Spain, in mid-January.

Rebecca is from Middlesbrough but plays in Norway. She has had a successful season as a striker with the Kolbotn IL club in Oslo, scoring 16 goals in 26 games. Her first goal came in her first league match when she came on after an hour and scored the final goal to make the score 3-1. Almost the same thing happened in the club's last match of the season in November, the Cup Final at the Bislett stadium, when she came on after an hour and brought the final score to 4-2. Rebecca and her teammates collected their trophies from the King of Norway.

In a statement giving the news about her selection this week, the club said on its web site, "we wish Becky good luck and continued success at Kolbotn."

Kolbotn beat FFC Frankfurt to reach the semi finals of the UEFA Women's Cup last season, but were then beaten by the eventual runners-up, Umeå.

Becky was called up to the England Under-23s for the first time in November, and after the latest news she said: "I only found out yesterday and am surprised at how fast this has all happened."

From the La Manga website  :

14-19 January England Women National Team

International  players will come back quite late for the games on the 20th.
Anyone has heard about the squad list by the way? there is nothing on the FA's website as usual.

Thanks, Dani Buet has been put up with the seniors that's great :)
I am bit surprised Lander is not on that list, if you look at the 5 center forward on that list I would rate her as good as 3 of those if not better.

I am amazed Helen Lander hasn't made the list too....

We don't usually get to hear about the England women's training camps but this time there is a bonus.  Becky Angus is there and has written on her club web site about her journey to La Manga and meeting the rest of the squad.

Becky must be unique in that she arrived in an England squad without ever having met any of the other players, because of her career in the US and then in Norwegian football.  But the nerves were soon dispelled and she has been welcomed into the team.

Fantastic read again.
It seems quite logical that the England coaches start up with the foundations when building the house,
I just wonder if they don't put too much emphasis on the defensive part and therefore restrai the creativity and attacking style. We will see what tomorrow brings ;D.

Day 5 no report as Becky had to pack and travel straight to Germany to play in a tournament with her club Kolbotn.
