Well the hair colour change has seemingly got her noticed - and maybe Rachel (or any other player who gets overlooked) might like to look at a certain player in the North Wales league for ideas in future  ;)

(See photos by Ron)

Apparently rock star frank Zappa's daughter is called Moon Unit Zappa....If Rachel changed her name to Rachel Unitt Zappa I'd bet someone would notice that one....

Rachy still has a lot of good football to offer England, good to see her get valuable game time and another cap for her vast collection.

I still don't understand why Stoney get in front of her , I guess she is better defensively than Rachel.

I've seen Everton a few times this season (more than I've seen Arsenal, I'm afraid  :'() and she has played excellent football, both defensive, and when opportunities arise, in attack.

Harder to spot with the recent hair colour though  ???
The pic is Tytti Porkka of Finland - I actually took it myself, but have lost all my pics and have no more :(

I agree with you twcat!

Rachel one of the best left backs in the womens game today, and is always a great crosser of the ball, can get forward when the chance arises, has an excellent left foot and is lovely girl too!!

she is still only a young player really, and i think Powell has her favourites, like all the managers though  ::)

But surely Rachel HAS to feature at the Euros????  She is such a great player in all aspects of the game, has excellent understanding with Johno at Everton and i have seen this transfare into the international games too

So come on Hope- Rachel is a better player than Stoney!  ;D

I agree I saw Hope yesterday actually and even spoke to her quickly but couldn't really have a word as I was a guest of the French FA and trying to argue some players case there and then would have been a bit rude  >:(

If you were guest of the French, then you couldn't really tell Hope what to do ;)

I think her place in the squad in really in balance with Yorston because the other left backs are not there, so it"s really 3 girls for 2 places.

Rachel's hoping that home-town support will make difference

WALSALL'S Rachel Unitt returns to her hometown next week hoping to keep her scoring streak going – and help England Women take a giant stride towards the 2011 World Cup.

Left-back Unitt – who grew up in Bentley – has regained her place in coach Hope Powell's starting XI over the past few months after an ankle injury cost the 28-year-old her spot for a while.

The 28-year-old Everton Ladies star has been a regular in the World Cup qualifying side, taking her cap tally to 77 and her goal tally to six with strikes against Malta, Spain and Turkey.

And having scored twice the last time she graced the Banks's Stadium turf – against the Czech Republic in 2005 – the set-piece specialist hopes to strike again on Thursday when England host Turkey at the home of the Saddlers.

Former Willenhall Comprehensive pupil Unitt said: "I'm really excited to be playing in Walsall again because it's the town I grew up in.

"I've been fortunate enough to play there twice before and the game five years ago against the Czechs was great because of the goals I got.

"Since then I've been back in 2007 but I'd only recently got back in the squad and I didn't get to play.

"And – if I'm playing of course – it would be nice to score again, I scored in Turkey in the away leg too."

Unitt's goal against Spain in June was crucial as it helped England fight back from 2-0 down to earn a draw and leaves them needing just a win over Turkey to clinch top spot in Group Five.

Even that does not guarantee them a spot in Germany next year – the eight group winners play off for the four European qualifying spots available.

Unitt – whose nephew Sam will be the England mascot at the Banks's – added: "If we had lost that game, we wouldn't have been able to get through.

"We scored three late goals in the first game against Turkey too – I'd say we probably haven't really performed since the home game against Spain (England won 1-0 at the New Den).

"So I think we are due a good performance and hopefully that will come next Thursday – it's the summer holidays too so a lot of kids and families can come down, it would be nice to get 7,000 or 8,000."

She's had a lot of luck with injuries in the past this is only her second major one...a miss for Birmingham but I wouldn't have thought she would have featured in the Euros much..

Isn't she in the hall of fame now, yet she's back playing?  I thought you had to be retired before you went into the Hall...
