Everton v Leeds United

The FA Women's Cup Sponsored by E.ON
Semi-Final
3pm, Sunday 16 March 2008
Haig Avenue, Southport FC

Having won their first silverware in a decade as they overcame Arsenal in The FA Women's Premier League Cup Final, Everton are seeking to make it a Cup double with Leeds standing in their way of a first FA Women's Cup Final appearance in three years.

Everton and England defender Rachel Unitt says that the confidence gained from ending Arsenal's long unbeaten run can inspire them to greater glory.

"The League Cup Final was fantastic, all the girls worked so hard and we got what we deserved from the game," Unitt explained.

"We knew that Arsenal were on a long run unbeaten but we were positive going into the game, and our approach was rewarded.

"After beating Arsenal we've seen a real boost to our confidence and hopefully that can be a factor for us today. We have one trophy, and we'd really like to make it another if we can.

Having shown they can compete with the best and be successful, Unitt says the Toffees are determined to keep progressing.

"We've always wanted to challenge for trophies and now we know we're good enough to succeed, Ithink the first step is always the toughest one but we've made it and hopefully we can really build on that," Unitt revealed.

"We have a lot of young players who are getting experience all the time, but the most important thing Mo (Marley) told everyone after the win over Arsenal was we have to make sure it isn't a one-off, we've got to make it the start of something big for Everton."

With Leeds standing in their way of a place in The FA Women's Cup Final, Unitt says there are similarities between the Blues and their Semi-Final opponents.

"Leeds are strong side and they are very similar to us in a number of ways," Unitt admitted.

"They have a lot of really good young players, and you get that sense that they are building for future.

"Like us they'll be looking to challenge Arsenal in the League and also the Cup competitions.

"They have also become our bogey side in recent seasons with some of the results we've had against them, but we'll that out of our minds today and hopefully get the result and make it into the Final."

She's the only thing to come out of Walsall ever, I mean lets face it John Stonehouse and Enoch Powell aren't much in the way of competition....

A bald Rachel Unitt, gee that would be really funny....But I think she might be back into the international squad.  She was ignored the season she played her best football now her form has tailed off a bit and she's being played again, you can see it makes sense...

Well the hair colour change has seemingly got her noticed - and maybe Rachel (or any other player who gets overlooked) might like to look at a certain player in the North Wales league for ideas in future  ;)

(See photos by Ron)
The pic is Tytti Porkka of Finland - I actually took it myself, but have lost all my pics and have no more :(

Apparently Reg Varney who died recently and was famous for 'On the Busses' came from Walsall....
