Lions ready for action
By Stuart Mawhinney. Thursday, 25 October 2007.

Rachel Unitt says that after returning from the World Cup in China, it's crucial that England get back on track as quick as possible with Belarus the first opposition on home soil.

It will be the Three Lions' second Euro 2009 qualifier, after they defeated Northern Ireland 3-0 in May, but their first encounter since losing a World Cup quarter-final to America in Tianjin just a month ago, and Unitt says the importance of the game cannot be underestimated.

"This game is going to be vitally important," Unitt told TheFA.com. "It's the first after the World Cup, and we need a great performance and we need goals.

"Everyone is ready now, we are back on it now and back in training ready for Belarus.

Unitt believes that it is important for England supporters who followed the team's progress in China to have the opportunity to watch the players live, and Walsall provides the perfect chance for fans to come out and watch the team with a sellout anticipated.

"A lot of people will have watched us in the World Cup on BBC, and the game at Walsall is pretty much a sellout," Unitt explained.

"I think it's fantastic that so many fans are going to be coming out to support us, and it would be nice for us to put on a good display for the fans and get some goals - that's what the fans want to see."

Another positive factor for Unitt will be the close proximity of Walsall's ground to her home, as the Everton defender grew up just two minutes away from Bescot Crescent.

Unitt said: "I'm really excited obviously, I only live two minutes away from here. To play in my hometown, and I'll have a lot of family and friends coming down to watch, will be very special.

"We played here two years ago and I got 90 minutes and was lucky enough to score two goals. So hopefully I'll get some playing time this time and try and get on the scoresheet again.

"That has to be one of my most memorable games for my country, I remember the atmosphere that day being special. There was only seven or eight thousand there that day, so it looks like we'll have a few more this time so it should be even better."

I guess she will get something like 5 minutes if England are 4-0 up and have not made all their 3 subs.
It's a competitive game and there is no time for sentiment there, otherwise she would have got a game against the USA in the last 5 minutes.

I must thank Rachel for being so kind as to allow my mate to take a pic of me with her on Sunday.

I sent it to her big fan in Barcelona - not sure he wanted me on it though  ;)
The pic is Tytti Porkka of Finland - I actually took it myself, but have lost all my pics and have no more :(

I'd find it interesting to see how much someone would get for one of these if they tried to sell it on themselves.

I do feel that people are paying over inflated prices for these, but Rachel doesn't seem to mind.  ;) I think the appropriate saying might be "money for old rope".

Maybe I think I would have liked a white shirt with just Rach's signiture on it but I suppose having the whole team on it isn't bad.  I suppose it would depend on when you were selling it.  If you waited till the Euro championships and they did really well, I suppose you might do okay.  There is a pretty good chance if you were to put it up that you might not make as much as you paid for it.  The last two shirts that Rachel as sold haven't got as much as the first one so I think returns are deminishing already...

Actually there are a lot of spammers and hackers on MySpace.  It seems quite easy for people to break into someones account.  I had it once and I noticed quite a few other people got it as well.  Also getting 'Hey big boy,' messages from Jessica out of Heroes wanting you to click on to her web-cam link (which were either hacking codes, or some sort of spyware) were also pretty tiresome.  I came close to deleting my own page at one point....
