Australia withdraws from FIFA Women's World Cup 2011 bidding process

Friday 12 October 2007

FIFA today received a formal letter from Football Federation Australia CEO Ben Buckley confirming that Australia has withdrawn from the formal bidding process for the FIFA Women's World Cup 2011.

Therefore, the field of potential hosts for the sixth FIFA Women's World Cup has been narrowed to three: Canada, Germany and Peru. On Monday, 29 October, the candidate associations will have the opportunity to present their bids to FIFA and on Tuesday, 30 October, the FIFA Executive Committee will take the decision of where the next edition of the world's premier women's football competition will take place.

That's a shame. I would have liked for Australia to host it, especially coming off their strong showing in China.

But I'm fairly sure Germany will get it ... If only because North America has hosted two tourneys in the past eight years and Peru has a snowball's chance in hell of winning it.

So, Germany in 2011, huh? Well, it would be awfully sweet to have Norway hoist the Cup in Tyskland  ;D
If the only prayer you say in your whole life is thank you, that would suffice.
