Women reach final round of Olympic qualifying

Trinidad and Tobago' Women Olympic team got goals from Tasha St Louis (two), Karyn Forbes and Janelle Nedd  to defeat Suriname 4-1 on Sunday in Paramaribo and book their spot in the Caribbean Football Union Final round of qualification for the Beijing Olympic Games.

After previous convincing victories over Grenadaand St Vincent/Grenadines, T&T needed to secure the win to top the group and managed just that.

The match was the toughest of the phase for T&T but the experience of St Louis and company gave them the edge. Head coach Marlon Charles couldn't have been more pleased with the effort.

"It's a well deserved win for us," he said. "The girls worked hard and were committed to the task. Hats off to all of them for the effort and now we will aim to improve on these performances because the bigger tests will come in the next round."

T&T will now join Cuba,  Jamaica and the winners of  Group D winner (taking place in the Cayman Islands this month) in the Caribbean Second Round later this year with the top two teams progressing to the final round of 2008 CONCACAF Women's Olympic Qualification.

In other action, Yezenia Gallardo scored twice to lead Cuba to a 2-1 triumph against the home side of the Dominican Republicat the Estadio Parque del Este in Santo Domingo. In the other group match on Sunday, Zauditu Kaza-Amlak had two goals to help the US Virgin Islands (1-2-0, 3 Points) to a 5:0 victory over the British Virgin Islands(0-3-0, 0 Points). In further action,  Tashana Vincent had four goals to pace Jamaicato an 8:0 win against Dominicaat the Antigua Recreation Ground in St. John's, Antigua & Barbuda. In the other group encounter on Sunday, Shuntae Todd scored twice for Bermudain the 4:0 victory over Antigua & Barbuda.
