U.S. wins Nordic Cup
« on: July 26, 2007, 09:24:24 AM »
The U.S. women's under-21 soccer team defeated Germany 4-0 on Tuesday to capture the Nordic Cup championship in Finland.

U.S. coach Bill Irwin, University of Portland's director of soccer, guided the team to its eighth title in the last nine years. His 18-player roster featured three UP players.

Recently graduated goalkeeper Cori Alexander posted shutouts in all three games. Sophomore Kelsey Davis was Alexander's backup but did not play. Senior midfielder Angie Woznuk started each game and scored a penalty kick goal in the championship.

The team beat Norway and Sweden to reach the title game.
