Dowie came in at half time for Dixson and the team lost it's balance with no one holding the midfield as well as Kim was doing. Strange game really. England on top in the first half. Then a more confused second half with some sloppy play and also great movement at  time.  :o

2' splendid cross from Danii Bird, Charlotte Young open the foot on the volley and put the ball  wide

10' good low shot from inside the penalty area by Young saved by the goalie

17' fantastic goal by Ellen White : ball is won by the midfields 5 meter inside the england half, fast transmission to Dixson who adjust a fine ball to White who shot across the goalie. Ball hits the inside  of the post and goes in.
An excellent example of the importance of the first vertical pass, a theme that gets develloped in training a lot as defensive gets tighter and tighter and difficults to outmaneuver.  1-0

USA got a few wide shots from outside the penalty area but nothing fruitful until the 39'
Dodgy backpass to Telford who clears it between the left back and the center back. Ball is intercepted and tramsitted to number who finishes low right with a good left foot.  1-1

End of first half dominated by England territorially and in number of chances.

Second half and England are not at the race from the start.
47' a mix up on the right side of the defence, ball not cleared and USA number 14 scores. 1-2

65' Corner won by the USA, header at the far post by USA number 2 I think. 1-3

England tries hard to create more chances, the rain starts to fall heavily but score does not change.

1. Carly Telford 2. Dunia Susi (Cap.) -> 14. Mel Sutcliffe 3. Claire Rafferty -> 14. Sophie Perry 4. Kimberley Dixson -> 17. Natasha Dowie 5. Fern Whelan 6. Sophie Bradley 7. Gemma Davison -> 16. Rebecca Hall 8. Charlotte Young 16. Elizabeth Edwards 9. Elen White 10. Rachel Williams 11. Danii Bird

Not used 13 Marie Hourihan 18.Ellie Gilliat.

USA gain revenge at Bisham Abbey

By Chris Falvey - Wednesday, 08 July, 2009

England lose 3-1 to the USA in a training match at Bisham Abbey.

England 1-3 USA
Women's U23 training match
Tuesday 7 July
Bisham Abbey

England Women's U23 team made a slow start to their second training game against the USA, with the visiting players first to almost everything.

However, after the first quarter of an hour England finally switched on. Kim Dixson slid a great ball in behind the US defence and found Ellen White striding clear. After entering the 18-yard area, she applied a cool finish to find the bottom left corner.

England took their foot off the gas again and failed to take hold of the game and build on their lead. A goalkeeping error late on in the half planted the ball at the feet of the US number 10, who fired a clean, low shot home.

With England not showing enough urgency, the USA had a couple more chances but none were converted.

Into the second half, England needed to be quicker to react all over the field. However, just five minutes in a loose ball in the England area was struck goalbound, and with the defence attempting in vain to block, USA took the lead.

With England now chasing the game it became a little scrappy.

The USA's third came from a corner taken to the backpost which was met by a towering header. England had it all to do but began creating chances with their more frantic play.

For the third time in the game, Ellen White found space behind the US back-line, but coming in on her unfavoured left foot she was unable to test the keeper. Finally, in the dying minutes, Rachel Williams let fly with a decent effort which crept just past the post.

1 Carly Telford, 2 Dunia Susi (c) (12 Mel Sutcliffe, 76), 3 Claire Rafferty (14 Sophie Perry, 60), 4 Kim Dixson (15 Lizzie Edwards, 76), 5 Fern Whelan, 6 Sophie Bradley, 7 Gemma Davison (16 Becky Hall 54), 8 Charlotte Young (17 Natasha dowie 45), 9 Ellen White, 10 Rachel Williams, 11 Dannii Bird

They don't teach French geography in French lessons over here (at least when I went to school  ;D)
And Wales isn't in England anyway  ;D

Have a look at a map sometime mate - how do you think I pick you up at Liverpool when I live in Wales? - but only for games in the North of England :o
You can make your own way to Cardiff  :D
The pic is Tytti Porkka of Finland - I actually took it myself, but have lost all my pics and have no more :(

yeah, I just turn up and pretend I know someone in the squad at those games ...
I mean if the families can come and watch why not supporters, I have been to a few of those behind closed door as long as you don't bother anyone, they don't care.
