Piece about a young footballer at Birmingham City Ladies FC from the Droitwich Spa Advertiser:-

A COFTON Hackett starlet is hoping to scale football's loftiest heights with the help of Birmingham City Ladies FC.

Katy Green, aged 14, is hoping she is on Birmingham's successful conveyor belt that has produced talents like England star Karen Carney.

The Waseley Hills High School pupil has been at the club's centre of excellence for two years and is currently part of an under-15s team that has made a winning start to the season.

Birmingham is the only West Midlands club playing in the top flight of women's football, the Premier League.

Katy is learning the game from coach and England under-21 international Laura Bassett and is one of a number of gifted footballers, Mamee Morris, Sophie Newnes and Stephanie Gagen based at the Centre of Excellence at Moor Lane football ground in Birmingham.

Father Henry Green said: "Birmingham is the only team in the Midlands playing in the top flight of women's football, so she has a great chance of making it all the way to the top.

"The club have done really well producing young players who have made it into the first team. Karen Carney's a good example - she's gone all the way to the top."

"Katie's doing well at the moment and the team are unbeaten in the league. All she can do is work hard and see where she goes."
