« on: May 30, 2007, 09:19:07 AM »
SOCCER -- Canada's star striker Christine Sinclair will have a shot at tying the Canadian record for most international goals when the women's national team travels to New Zealand for a two-game international friendly series next month.

Sinclair has scored 70 goals for Canada, including a pair already this season in only two games.

Canada departs this week for New Zealand where they will play in Auckland on Sunday and again on Wednesday, June 6.

Reality check for New Zealand women

Captain Christine Sinclair scored two goals as Canada delivered the women's football World Cup reality check New Zealand had almost expected at North Harbour Stadium yesterday.
Sinclair scored in each half and set up another as Canada, which missed a late penalty it was forced to retake, won 3-0 to put a dampener on New Zealand's first home international in eight years.
The double saw Sinclair become Canada's all-time leading goal-scorer with an impressive 72 goals in 92 matches, one better than Charman Hooper who scored her 71 goals in 156 internationals.
New Zealand, missing seven first-team regulars, was always going to struggle against world No. 10 Canada which has been in camp since late January.
Coach John Herdman will be looking for much more patience in Wednesday's second match, at the same venue.
"I think Canada showed why they are No. 10 in the world and they're a class act," Herdman said. "We always knew it was going to be a reality check for us."
