SLATON TO SUIT UP FOR F.C. TWENTE3 IL

New WPSL side nets offensive standout & former Illini All-American Tara Hurless as well

CHICAGO, IL (04/24/07) - To compete with the likes of Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) powerhouses in the Midwest Conference like F.C. Indiana and River Cities F.C., a new team needs to find cornerstone-type players in defense and offense. F.C. Twente3 IL - a first-year organization in the Midwest of the WPSL - has made a tremendous first step going into their inaugural season as they have announced the signings of former Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA) Defender of the Year Danielle Slaton and 2006 Swedish League leading scorer Tara Hurless for the 2007 season.

"The opportunity to have Danielle and Tara play for F.C. Twente3 is extremely exciting," said Head Coach Richard Drake. "They are both high quality players who immediately raise the level of our team. Danielle's experience with the U.S. National team and WUSA will give our young players a great example to look up to. She will be invaluable to me as a player and a leader. Danielle has played at the highest level, and now as a college coach as well (Northwestern University Assistant), she will bring another coaching mind to the team.

"Tara will score goals for us. After playing in Sweden last year, she has shown that she will be a dynamic force in the attacking third of the field. Tara's experience as an All-American at the University of Illinois as well as her success with AIK in Sweden will immediately impact our team and this league in a very positive fashion."

The addition of Danielle Slaton, a highly decorated All-American and U.S. Olympian defender from Santa Clara University, is a coup for Drake and his F.C. Twente3 IL side. Slaton comes to the WPSL after playing the last five years in the professional ranks, as a member of the U.S. Women's National Team and with Olympique Lyonnais in France.

Slaton was a five-year member of the USWNT from 2000-2005 that won a silver medal at the 2000 Olympic games in Sydney and was also a member of the 2003 Women's World Cup squad (Third Place). After her collegiate career at Santa Clara University, Slaton went on to play professionally where she was the first overall draft pick in 2002 by the Carolina Courage, and in her first year helped lead the Courage to the WUSA Championship and was named Defender of the Year.

In 2005, she went on to play for the Olympique Lyonnais in France where she was a starting defender on the French First Division team, who were French Cup Tournament Finalists. As a collegian at Santa Clara University, Slaton was a a three-time First Team National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-American and helped lead the Broncos to the 2001 NCAA Championship as a senior - being named the NCAA College Cup Defensive MVP for her efforts.

Danielle was a four-time First Team All-West Coast Conference selection, the 1998 WCC Freshman of the Year and 2001 Defender of the Year. She started in 79 of 84 matches during her college career for Head Coach Jerry Smith and the Broncos, scoring 50 points on eight goals and 34 assists.

Hurless, a two-time Second Team NSCAA National All-American for the University of Illinois and a former U.S. U-21 National Team member, comes to F.C. Twente3 IL after a strong season for AIK in the Swedish League, where she was the league's leading scorer for the league champions. In her senior season in 2005 for the Illini, she led the team in every offensive category, including goals scored for the third straight year.

The All-Big Ten Conference selection helped her team - which had advanced to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight - finish the season with a national ranking of No. 14 in the final NSCAA poll in 2005. After all was said and done, the team co-captain put her name atop several Illini records including career goals (47), assists, points, shot attempts, game-winning goals, games played, games started and season game-winning goals.
