Friendlies Apr 2017 – Eng v Italy & Austria
« on: April 02, 2017, 08:52:31 AM »
Lets hope that Southgate takes a leaf out of Sampson's book and names his World Cup winning squad today......

I... I can't even...

So, yes, Sampson is naming his Euro 2017 squad tomorrow. An unusual move three months before the tournament:

http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/39420322

Quote
"We've worked with our player pool for three years now and are clear on the right players we want," he said.

"This gives the squad and staff the chance to be focused solely on the Euros and takes away any of the uncertainty that players might have in the run-up."

Yet again, the England manager sticks his oar in and ruins the excitement and tension of yet another WSL Spring Series. How many times have we seen that happen :)

Anyway, the England team are playing a couple of friendlies against Italy and Austria, here's a lazy copy 'n' paste of the info:

Italy are likely to lose badly, if they can't improve on their recent Cyprus Cup performance.

Austria are a more interesting opponent imo – this is a video of their 2016 friendly in Germany, a well-named "test match":

Austria were beaten by Scotland last month in their match in Cyprus.

I agree with Aluko on the England squad- he clearly doesnt like her although she top scored last season and is the one in form. Better to pick injured players now so that they can gel with the squad and bond. He clearly is aggravated a Aluko is cleverer than he is.

There's a stream no stream of the friendly tonight (Friday 7.45), maybe red button too.

England v Italy
BBC, er, "coverage"

They only announced the coverage late as usual. Maybe to drive up the attendance? Or are they just forgetful?

It's just a text commentary on http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/live/football/39530659

Bit misleading to use the standard headline "live coverage" that they'd previously used for streams.

Perhaps better only to read about it – there's been a nasty injury for Italy's Alice Parisi, in a collision with Millie Bright (at 30 minutes on the commentary).

Athletic , physical and bereft of skill, so just want the new head of womens football wants.
This type of player should be the waste product of developing creative skilled players and not the intended objective of the pathway programs.

(Match reports: England-Italy / England-Italy / England-Austria)

Yes ENGLAND ARE UNBEATABLE against Austria. This is very bad news for Austria. Other than that, the Italy result is a bit of a letdown, no?
