Beth Mead to Arsenal
« on: January 27, 2017, 07:40:29 AM »
The striker leaves Sunderland, in a departure that almost everyone could've predicted:

Sylvain has an article with some good questions about Arsenal's overstaffed forward line and tactics:

Profile-wise, Beth Mead is a small and quick centre forward, lethal in front of the goal. She was mainly used by Sunderland to run behind the opposition defence using her pace. Obviously, she was used in a counter attacking team with a lot of space in front of her and it will be interesting to see her develop her game with a team that has a more possession-based philosophy like Arsenal.

It was obvious she wasn't going to prosper anymore at a part-time Sunderland, but do you think Arsenal is the right team for her?

It behoves all of us in the women’s football community to ensure that Sunderland’s women do not go the same way [as Rangers].

Ever since the days of Liz Deighan, Pauline Chilton and Christine Hutchinson, the north-east has been a hotbed of the English women’s game. ... But with the exodus of full-timers already underway, it seems the best the club can hope for is a period of consolidation at WSL 2 level. And the prompt appearance of a more reliable income stream.

I think she is a good player at WSL 1  level as seen in her previous seasons with Sunderland.
She is young so she has a lot of years to improve her weaknesses.
