Hibernian will be in action in the Women's Champions League 2017/18, when qualifying begins in August. They have to go to Romania to face three clubs including Swansea City. Later, Glasgow City will enter the competition in October in the round of 32.

The editor Tim from Tartan Kicks has been going through some troubles lately, please wish him well if you can.

For Scotland's national team, you may have heard about the continuing and baffling stand-off between the SFA and players:

Last Sunday saw the Scottish Women's Cup, round 2.

There was a close-run contest at New Tinto Park, where Rangers v Aberdeen went to extra time.

Elsewhere, not so close-run! Both Hibernian and Hearts scored 11 (eleven) goals apiece. Elsewhere the SWPL2 leaders visited the SWFL2 East leaders - final score Raith Rovers 2 Forfar Farmington 5.

A couple of games have video highlights:

Might be fixture trouble ahead:

Quote
An immediate priority will be to knock the second half of the season into shape. The Scotland under-19 side's qualification for their championship in Northern Ireland has exacerbated an already difficult fixture situation.

Their success means there will be SWPL1 postponements for the first two rounds of matches in August. After that Hibernian, who will go into the summer break as league leaders if they don't lose to Aberdeen today, travel to Romania for three Champions League qualifying round matches.

Neither the Edinburgh club nor Glasgow City are likely to play any league games in August as they were due to meet each other when Hibs are away. ... Aberdeen are still waiting to hear if they will forfeit their scheduled midweek game against Spartans on May 17 – one they couldn't fulfil because many of their players were unable to travel.

Last game before the midseason break, it was a must-win for Celtic:

Celtic v Glasgow City, 25 Jun
- www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjzAtD31510

(Match report here.)

The leaders, Hibs, recorded an 8-0 win over Aberdeen:

In the weekend's other games, Rangers fell 3-1 to Spartans, and the SWPL 2 leaders, Forfar Farmington, lost to 2nd-placed Motherwell. Their lead is now six points, with 10 games to go. (Danni McGinley interview here.)

No more domestic matches until August, as Scotland focus on their Euro 2017 campaign. The players made a deal with the SFA to end their media strike, but it's hard to feel confident about the campaign with the team not at its strongest.

Joelle Murray has been appointed Hibernian's new girls' academy manager, as well as joining the Euros squad.

At the halfway stage, this is the table in SWPL 1:

                        Pl    W   D   L    GD    Pt
Hibernian      11   10   0   1   36   30
Glasgow C.   10   9   1   0   30   28
Celtic            11   5   2   4   10   17
Spartans      10   5   2   3   -1   17
Stirling Uni.   11   5   1   5   -8   16
Rangers      11   4   0   7   -6   12
Hamilton       11   1   0   10   -21   3
Aberdeen      11   0   2   9    -40    2

SWPL 2: Forfar Farmington 28, Motherwell 22, Hearts 20, Glasgow Girls 20

No SWPL1 for three weeks.

Hibbees
Holding out at the top but for how much longer- those Glasgow girls are breathing down their necks a little....

History certainly on Glasgow City's side :) but it'll be interesting since their two matches are still yet to be played - and could end up deciding the championship.

First meeting is a midweeker on Wednesday 6 September, and the return leg in Edinburgh is scheduled for the second-last week of the season, November 12.

After the Euros, Scotland's Fiona Brown returns to club football with Eskilstuna in Sweden. Interview here:

- http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/local-sport/dunblane-football-ace-fiona-brown-11010483 (Archive page)

Quote
“The England game was tough for me. We spent much of the match defending and as an attacking player that’s always difficult.

“I would say the Portugal game suited me better. I was able to do what I’m best at and that’s driving at players and trying to put crosses in the box and create chances. The team played well.

“It was all a bit of an eye-opener though. We’ve got some young players and I’m still a young player myself so it’s all good experience for us.

“The backing we had from the Scottish fans was unbelievable too."

New Scottish Squad Announced

Looking forward to the Scotland team results now that Kerr is in charge. Having witnessed her work at Arsenal Ladies............

She's gonna hit it out of the park. Although hitting it into the goal would be best.

This is the squad – the match is a friendly with Hungary, in Budapest on 14 September.:
