« on: April 22, 2015, 04:21:03 PM »
European Cup first qualifying round: On Monday the draw was made for the first round of qualification for the 2017 European Championship.

Norway was seeded and was last out of the machine, matched with Austria, Wales, Israel and Kazakhstan in group 8.  Matches must be played between Sept. 14 2015 and Sept. 20 2016.  This time the finals tournament, to be played in the Netherlands, has been opened up from 12 to 16 nations.  The eight group winners will go through with the six best runners-up.  The last two runners-up will play a qualification round in October 2016, and Netherlands qualify automatically as the hosts.

Group 1: Iceland, Scotland, Belarus, Slovenia, Macedonia,
Group 2: Spain, Finland, Ireland, Portugal, Montenegro,
Group 3: France, Ukraine, Romania, Greece, Albania,
Group 4: Sweden, Denmark, Poland, Slovakia, Moldova,
Group 5: Germany, Russia, Hungary, Turkey, Croatia,
Group 6: Italy, Switzerland, Czech Rep., Northern Ireland, Georgia,
Group 7: England, Belgium, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Estonia,
Group 8: Norway, Austria, Wales, Israel, Kazakhstan.

I guess the same home and away format will be used so Norway and all the other teams will have eight matches to play, with trips to some exotic places.

Goal analysis
« Reply #1 on: April 28, 2015, 11:22:59 AM »
Norway's assistant trainer Roger Finjord does the video analysis for Maren Mjelde's 3-0 goal against Greece last June in Euro qualification: https://www.fotball.no/VideoTV/NFFTV/?mid=C0178A1E

The video shows the ball going from the centre-back to the left-back and in to central midfielder Mjelde who is well placed to run the ball forward, which she does.  As the opposition closes in on her two other players move towards her to take a pass.  Meanwhile Mjelde and the left back run forward off the ball into Greece's back line, splitting the defence, and are ready ready to take the next pass.  It goes to Mjelde who runs in and scores from 16 yards.

The left-back running up with Mjelde is Kristine Minde, her old teammate from Arna-Bjørnar now at Linköping.  The two passing the ball in the middle are first Elise Thorsnes and then Ada Hegerberg.

Finjord says that it shows the importance of the midfield box-to-box player in Norway's team.

For Maren Mjelde that day, it was something she made up her mind to do before the match, which was played at Brann Stadium in her home town of Bergen.  She decided it might be her only chance to score for Norway in front of her home crowd, and she did it.  The match finished at 6-0.

Mjelde with brother Erik, a professional league player in Norway, who taught his little sister to play football:

Olympic playoff tournament
« Reply #2 on: June 25, 2015, 09:27:10 AM »
More details have come through about the competition for the one free place at the Rio Olympics.  Germany and France have reached the quarter finals and they will go.  England will not be taking part, so the other four nations that went out in the 1/8 finals will play a mini tournament.  Norway, Switzerland, Netherlands and Sweden are in the playoff, arranged by UEFA.

"There will be a mini tournament of six matches.  The period set aside for mini tournaments is between February 29 and March 9 2016", said UEFA in an email to Dagbladet.

The four nations must agree on the exact date within this window.  The format is similar to one of the World Cup groups, except that only one team will go through.

"Will all the matches be played in the same country?" - "Yes", said UEFA.

"Has the host nation been selected?" - "No, that decision will be taken later".

"Must the mini tournament be played in a neutral country?" - "No, it will happen in one of the four countries taking part", said the spokesman.

This means that the NFF will have to discuss whether they have the required facilities for a mini tournament in the winter, or accept that they must play away from home.

Unfortunately the match is in Ålesund at Color Line.  Unless you have points that's a 300 euro return from Paris.
