She Kicks interviews says she was out for a few weeks  ??? Arsenal cannot afford to fill up a bench with 5 valid subs...

"TL: Your return should have been followed by immediately stepping into action, first in the FA Cup and three days later in the Champions League. But an injury put paid to that mouth-watering prospect – how big a blow was that?

KS: It was a massive disappointment and so frustrating – I was on a high when the signing went through, but then on the same day the club doctor sent me for precautionary X-rays on my leg and the damage was worse than I thought. I got hit by a late challenge in the game against France at the Cyprus Cup and it was certainly painful, but it was thought that it might only be bruising on the bone. It was a bit more than that though, the bone is chipped just above the ankle, and it looks like I could be out for two to three weeks."

Retiring from playing - some articles about her retirement, her future, and her legacy:

From She Kicks & arsenal.com:

Kelly Smith MBE has called time on her playing career and will be taking on a full-time coaching role with Arsenal Ladies. ...

To mark Kelly's retirement there will be a celebration game on Sunday 19th February [2pm] at Boreham Wood FC, to thank her for her incredible contribution to the club, with Arsenal taking on a star-studded team of past and present players from around the world.
There will be a host of remarkable players from around the world including Steph Houghton and Faye White along with past and current stars of the women’s game, to play against the new Arsenal Ladies squad for 2017.

And a tribute by Tim Stillman:

Quote
This week, one of Arsenal’s most decorated, illustrious and fascinating playing careers came to an end. Kelly Smith finally hung up her boots as a player. Kelly has undertaken 3 spells at Arsenal Ladies in between jaunts to America to pursue full time professionalism. ...

Though acutely shy off the pitch, there is something about a ball and grass that releases the beast in Smith. It almost seems to act as a release valve for her demureness. It is difficult to reconcile the reticent figure you meet away from the pitch, with the spiky competitor that you see on it.

A roar goes up as Kelly Smith enters the field of play one last time in front of 2,350 family, friends and fans of the women’s game, as they prepare to say #ThankYouKelly.

They were all At Meadow Park in Borehamwood to see Smith and a host of teammates who’ve had the honour of sharing the field with the England legend, as part of a celebration match organised by Arsenal Ladies following the announcement of her retirement last month.

Smith was only involved as a manager rather than a player, but she came on to score a late penalty, perhaps given in dubious WWE-style circumstances. (At Alan Shearer's testimonial they did a similar thing, although he was injured rather than pregnant.)
